I followed the instructions to get gtalk working on pidgin, and no go.
It just gives me an error that says "<googleID>@gmail.com/Home
disabled. Not Authorized" O_o
I definitely have a gmail account and this is very confusing....can
someone shed some light on this problem?

No I definitely am inputting those same settings. It just refuses to
log in! Accessing gtalk through web browser works just fine.....just
not pidgin....

I just started having this same problem after not using pidgin for a
few weeks. I haven't changed any settings and it used to work fine.
I've tripple-checked everything and the setup still appears to be as
it should be, matches every example and help page I've been able to
find on the web. Pidgin simply reports that I'm not authorized and
then disables the account. I am logged in presently to gmail with the
same account information so there is no problem on that end. Stephen

server bug and I decided to sign back on during the wrong hour...
Indeed, trying again a couple hours later, problem is gone. Odd that
when it was not working it reported Not Authorized as opposed to
simple failure to connect.... (this distinction caused Pidgin to
permanently disable the account until manually re-enabled) but it does
appear to be an intermittent problem, I assume with google but I
suppose it could still be an intermittent bug in Pidgin.

I've been having this problem off and on for a couple weeks now. I
upgraded to pidgin 2.4.1 hoping that would fix it, but I still have
trouble. It's different messages at different times, too. Sometimes it
just says "Not authorized", sometimes its the unknown error that
Junior Bad Boy posted. I'll click "Reconnect" and it almost never
resolves itself until I disable and reenable the account manually. And
even then, sometimes that doesn't work.
It's really annoying, especially since it will fail in the middle of
conversations.

It's no solution, but it might help finding the cause as I recognize
the error message.
I have Pidgin on my work laptop.
At home, when I use my own internet connection, all logins work.
When I login in at work, I get the error message you encounter.
Apparently the traffic of Pidgin is somewhere blocked on the work's
proxy.
Perhaps this is also the case at your situation, that somewhere this
traffic is blocked....

I also use Pidgin 2.4.1, and I've been getting the "Not Authorized"
error when trying to sign into GoogleTalk. I know for sure I'm
entering the correct username and password. I have no trouble
connecting with my other GoogleTalk accounts, so I'm not sure what
exactly is different about this one. I've checked the settings, and
they are identical for each account, aside from the different
usernames.
Note, the documentation on google's site is INCOMPLETE.
After you follow the instructions that they have (before clicking
save) you must
click advanced
Check ON Require SSL/TLS
Select Connect server and type talk.google.com
Then, you should be able to click save and it should work.

I had the same problem and I was able to fix it by adjusting the proxy
settings used by Pidgin.
Under Modify Account, go to the Advanced tab and from the Proxy Type
drop down list I changed my settings from "Use Global Proxy Settings"
to "Use Enviornmental Settings".
This solved my problem and I am now able to access my google talk on
Pidgin again.

NOPE. tried everything under the sun. it's wierd, i'm beginning to
think it's something about individual accounts, because no group of
settings works for everyone.
somebody in google must provide some insight into this.

I have not been able to login to Google talk using Pidgin on my
Windows XP SP3 desktop.
I am using Pidgin 2.5.1. I have no google mail and so use gmail.com as
my domain. I obtained a handle using the google talk gadget and can
connect to correspondents using Pidgin 2.0.1, which I use on another
laptop, using these parameters and my usual password.
I have set
SSL/TLS = No
Force Old Port = Yes
Connect Port = 443
Connect Server = talk.google.com
and USE GLOBAL PROXY, which I believe is unset, as is enviromental
settings. I am behind a broadband router which has NAT functionality.
Do I need to open any ports on the external firewall.
I am currently getting a read error.
I am also trying to connect to another XMPP server, which isn't a
problem with Pidgin V2.0.1.
