Hello geo-modelers,

I'd like to request your help. As previously discussed, in the last
couple months we "scrubbed" the 3D Warehouse for all "Google Earth-
ready" models. Any model that had not been judged was re-run through
the review process. (Note: there are still some models that are going
through so if one is yours, please be patient, we're getting there.)

As also noted we adjusted our judgment criteria to be a bit more
flexible than in the past. The goal being to allow more of your models
into Google Earth. In the course of this effort a number of models
made their way into Earth that do not meet our criteria. We'd like to
know about those models.

Many of you are modeling your local towns and cities and producing
outstanding work. Having an model appear that is incorrectly scaled,
floating, non-existent, or degrades the visual fidelity of an area can
be discouraging.

If you locate such models I'd ask that you reply to this thread with
links to these models. We'll review them and if we agree, we'll remove
it.

Happy Sketching.

Several of my models remain Rotated and a couple have Z-Fighting and
at least one is incorrectly Scaled.
However, I have already re-uploaded a couple and will revise and re-
upload the rest over the next few days, in which case they will be
back in the Review Queue anyway.
I trust this will be satisfactory.
However, if you prefer to remove them from the 3D Layer immediately,
please let me know and I'll provide you with their links now. But I
hope you can wait a few days and trust that I will rectify all that
need it .... because it is important to me that they look their best.

Thanks.

Bruce,

The "Whoops!" thread in this subforum has many links to such models
from an earlier discussion.

Hello!
before I saw this topic, I found this model in GE and I immediately
got started to remodel it. It is not in any kind aligned/scaled in GE.

After checking out this discussion I thought I might as well mention a
couple of my 'accepted-to-3d-buildings-layer' models.

The following has png transparencies which appear solid-black in the
accepted version (but works as intended when exported from sketchup or
downloaded from 3d warehouse)

A similar story with the following but have been trying to get
replaced with an updated version

I just had a model denied because it was 2 meters off the mark. On the
same city (Porto Alegre, Brazil), 500 meters away from my models,
there are a few models that are about 20 meters misaligned, and they
are there, approved by Google!

Gee, I might not even tell you guys because I dont know if the authors
will fix their location, and this city that has thousands of highrises
and midrises has so few of them modelled, that the loss of any of them
because of misalignment is indeed a terrible loss.

Hello SnowTiger,

Go ahead and re-upload (using the "edit" option on the model detail
page). As you noted, once you do this the model will automatically be
sent back through the review process.

Happy Sketching.

I have no problem using the Edit function to update the subject
models, but I was wondering if this is different from editing and
uploading over the previous upload (with MID intact) ?
Is there a disadvantage to modifying then uploading as opposed to
using the Edit function ?
I'm not talking about deleting the old or uploading an entirely new
model.
For example, what if it is going to take me 2 days to make the
necessary modifications ... during the meantime, I won't be on the net
and have the model's page open during the edit process.

This is the way I usually edit presently uploaded models. But I have
also already re-uploaded approved 3D layer models because the MID was
still intact. Is this a problem ?
Am I missing something ?

Hello Guys,
I don't understand what are you doing accusing other modelers of
making bad situation of the models, it is not ethic, possibly when
they put the models in Google earth they fit them very well. with a
lot of work. This is my case. I have more than 148 models, sometimes
ago very fine Google earth matching. Now some of them are misaligned.
I am giving you the link of my models, if you want you can delete all
of my models. It has nonsense.

I through the towel. It was a very interesting, but now I am very
confused, perhaps it is due to my lack of knowledge of the English
language. Here you are the link

Hello again, Could anybody solve my doubts?

I am very sorrow that this mess was made by Google not by us the silly
modelers who believe in this beautiful project, but in my opinion when
we make a fail we must assume our mistakes, although in this case
Google had to assume the big mistake in the imagery update.

In my village I was checking with our Sigpac "GIS" and the new
imagery update has bad scale of the buildings, not only the geo-
reference one; I check and there are errors about 1 m in a building
that has 6 m wide. Meanwhile this continuous I will not advise about
using Google Earth for professional tasks.

Please solve this big problem. Anybody understand me?

Hi Jose,

I'm pretty sure Bruce was referring to models that slipped through the
approval process, which they have changed recently, and *never* met
the acceptance criteria --- they are untextured, do not exist, are
incomplete, or grossly inaccurate. See some of the examples above, or
in the "Whoops!" thread. The problem of models floating because Google
made a terrain change is different. No one wants to delete your
excellent models!

Hi José Manuel

Here is an example of what GaryM and Bruce are referring to.
My church model was approved for the 3D Layer. For this I was very
pleased.
Unfortunately, it wasn't until after it was converted to a kmz and
placed in GE that I noticed the really bad Z-Fighting in the bell
tower.

Personally, I appreciate the opportunity to recognize the problems
exist and be given opportunity to fix and re-upload them, Before they
are ultimately "disqualified" and removed from the 3D Layer.
I'm not happy with the kmz conversion results, but willing to work
with it .... as long as it is consistent (working or not).

I revised and re-uploaded Trinity United Church and Village Market
today. I also revised Tri-Area Medical Centre but need one clear day
(it has rained for weeks here), to take a photo of their new sign.
Then I can upload it once and for all.
My models on the west side of Durham Street (Madoc Collection), will
all be revised in the coming week. I will re-align them and hope
Google's converter doesn't make a mess of that again because it sure
looks like $%^&* now.

In any case, I should have all issues with Z-Fighting, model alignment
and tiled textures resolved by the end of the week at the latest.
I might even divide the west side models into individual buildings if
Google prefers it.

BTW - Google

Here is a good example of Too Much Built-Up Terrain

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=e2ea188c40015c15991f4f6f696c6145

Now that looks ridiculous. I am surprised that Google permitted such a
model, especially when the Acceptance Criteria was supposedly more
strict until recently.
However, I don't like to criticize models from other people,
especially when a few of my own are of questionable quality.
But if I modeled something with terrain like this, I would expect a
denial. But not when the modeled terrain is more realistic than
Google's.

Many thanks Nestor. With one or two exceptions, these models have been
removed (reflected in next weeks release).

Hello tomcioZG,

I'm unable to access any of the links below, so presumably the modeler
has already removed them.

Hi Bruce

I do not know why... but the cut ends of the links.
My fault. Sorry :)
I send it again because in the manual searching these models still are
as the best in the layer. Cross at the mountain should be one. Two
wrongly selected. This is quite important because it is one of the
most famous places (tourist) in Poland.
