Hi everyone,

something really strange happend to me today. My model of the Willis Tower in Chicago was rejected after two years of being on GE...but it wasn't replaced by an other model, no, it was rejected because of incomplete texturing!!!! After two years!!An the best thing is, everything is textured! Please Google Guides do something so that it can stay on GE, as weird as it sounds but this model is like my baby :D.

The second model  in trouble is One Canada Square in London, it was rejected first, I appealed, they said sorry you are right you model is better and today it was rejected again??

And last but not least my model of the United Nations Headquarters in NYC. This one is kind of complicated. It was rejected some time ago, I appealed and it was reaccepted but only for a week or so, I appealed again and they told me what I would have to change to get it reacepted again and like they said I changed everything they asked for and now it was again rejected. What am I supposed to do???

I hope someone of the Google Guides can bring some light into these cases!

Thanks

Sebastian S.

Hi Sebastian,

You've sent the first model to Appeals. It should be looked at soon.

I'll take a look at the other 2 and get back to you as soon as possible. I'm manning the 3D buildings layer update today and pretty occupied for the rest of the day. I will look at it as soon as i can.

Sorry for the delay Sebastian! I've take a look, feedback below.

One Canada Square - accepted
This is a problem with our review pipeline. An appeals reviewer will accept a model, but the model is still subject to surface in a duplicate review. Because your model and the competing model are so close in quality you're at risk of getting rejected even after appeal. This is a known issue that affects a small number of appealed models. We have several solutions and are actively working to resolve the trouble.

United Nations - better model exists
I'm looking at your Appeal, and the detailed instructions provided. It looks like you've improved the textures on the UN tower, and they look great. There is still work to be done on the built terrain. The advantage of the competing model is that it doesn't have any built terrain. If you're going to create a terrain skirt, it has to be done correctly.

Hi Alex,

Do you have some tipps of how I can improve the terrain?? Because I have actually no idea of what I'm doing wrong. I would like to model it without the terrain but the terrain is necessary since the one in GE is wrong.

Regarding the One Canada model I would like to say that I think the model which is on GE right now should have never been accepted...The model of Jake Martin which was on GE is (in my point of view) better than it. The current model is modeled quit bad actually and the textures are everywhere but not where they belong too...That's why I made a model of this building in the first place.

But anyhow I'm really grateful for your effort and I really hope you can help me out with the terrain of the UN-Building.

I can provide some tips here, but I think you fellow geo-modelers could supplement with more tips on creating a good terrain skirt. It's also worth noting that this model may be accepted with the terrain skirt if there weren't a competing model.
  1. Make sure texturing is correct.
  2. Be as accurate as possible! If you're adding on to the Google Earth terrain do not make erroneous, inaccurate geometry.
    • If modeling in an area where there are stairs, stepped courtyards etc, model them. You're already creating additional terrain geometry, use this opportunity to accurately model the area.
    • Use Street View and the shadows on the Google Earth imagery to detect where stairs or elevated courtyards exist.
  3. Use gradual grades so your terrain skirt blends nicely with the Google Earth terrain.
I've attached a few images that could help.

FANTASTIC improvements! Well done, Sebastian. I'm afraid you received a bad judgment. Can you appeal the model?
