a Map Your World - 3D Modeling for Google Earth & Maps
Hi

Why do models that are totally inaccurate get accepted for Google
Earth, they don't add anything to the city if they are not accurate at
all? Here are some examples:

Niguliste church by =LiNK=
Model: http://i46.tinypic.com/2uz9fvd.png
Actual: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/et/b/b9/Niguliste_kirik_2009.jpg

I know he is trying to help model the city but these models are not
adding anything to it, if tried to talk to the guy but he only speaks
Russian. I think something should be done, the models are accpeted to
Earth too easily. Here are a few more:

Most of his models are just using a repeating texture on every side. I
know standars shouldn't be too high but this just too low, it's quite
sad.

Here are more models that were easily accepted:

Oh and I forgot, here's the worst of them all, a 3D model that should
represent the building of the prime minister of Estonia, look at this:

WHY do models like this get accepted? Why? This just embarassing for
me as a native of Tallinn.

Hi,

If you believe you have found a model that does not meet our
acceptance criteria (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwh/
acceptance_criteria.html), post its 3D Warehouse link here and we'll
take another look. That said, it's a little hard to tell from your
screenshots but it looks to me as though the models you've referenced
are probably okay; they're phototextured, and in an area where the
Google Earth imagery isn't great we accept tiled roof textures. You
can always create a better model of the building and submit it
instead.

But, really? A model like this:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=2d1c12675762b94960450702aaf3ed32&prevstart=0
gets accpeted for GE? That's as good as if I made a model like that of
the Capitol building and it would get accepted...

Yes. It is correctly geolocated, and uses phototextures. The
significance of the building isn't a factor in determining how good a
model has to be, in order to be accepted. Feel free to build a better
model and submit it instead.

Well I am currently making a model of the presidential palace in
Estonia, but a good model takes time unlike the ones made by this guy.
He makes tons of these poor models in no time.
