I just modeled my house with Building Maker and had it accepted to Google Earth. Unfortunately, when 3D Buildings are engaged, the house is blurred (as are miles of surrounding terrain). Thoughts?

First, it would help if you put up a link to your model.

Second, I'm glad you brought this up because I happen to have the same issue with one of my own models, The Harvard Bridge over the Charles River.  I completed this model over three years ago, and it was a particularly daunting task to weigh detail against simplicity, with all of the bridge's 200+ girders.  But for some time now, whenever I look at this project in Google Earth's 3D layer, it doesn't quite "focus" itself to its proper display as it used to - the street lamps & railing still look blurred.  I'm pretty much stumped; does anyone else have the same issue with any other personal models in GE?  Is there a way to rectify it?

Hi folks, I'm not seeing the problem on my machines, but that doesn't mean it's not a problem.

There are a lot of variables for how Google Earth renders so here are the things to look at:

Platform: Windows/Mac
Version: 7.1.1.xxxx?
Cache setting (have you cleared the cache lately?)
3D View Options (settings):
 - OpenGL/DirectX?
 - Use high quality terrain checked?
 - Antialiasing?
 - Texture Color setting

Also, and this is one of the biggest determining factors, what is your graphics card? How much VRAM? How old?

Without looking at these variables, there is no way to determine what your issue might be. On my Mac and Windows machines, I don't see any blurring, but I also clear my cache very often.

Best,

I've also noticed this in Google Earth. It takes a lot longer now for a model to render at its highest resolution (keep in mind that Google Earth optimizes every model so what you see in Google Earth may not be as good as your original model). Still, it is taking much longer for a building to render at its highest resolution than any reasonable person would spend looking at a model (most likely leaving the average viewer thinking the model used poor textures). I'm not sure if it's Google or Trimble, but I would bet it has something to do with Google selecting the new mesh 3D layer which doesn't need higher resolution because it looks absolutely terrible at street view.
