Hi Folks, we had a particularly large imagery push this week (including new 3D Imagery in Chicago and other cities), which took a very long time to get through the system. Because of that, we'll have to skip the 3D model push this week, and we'll have to pick it back up the week after next.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but we weren't the only ones who got bumped off of the schedule and we'll do our best to ensure that the next push goes as planned.

If you have any projects going on, next week is a good time to finish them and upload them to the 3D Warehouse.

Best,

    - Craig

So, new 3D Imagery in Chicago? :/

Well that effects me quite a bit since most of my models are buildings from Chicago but I'm also kinda curious if the auto-generated models are already better than those in Rome, Munich and etc.

When will it be live on GE? It still displays the user-made models.

Hi Sebastian, we're getting better with each new city, but occasionally do still have some rough patches even in the new data. We're working hard to solve those problems.

The 3D Imagery is live now. You may want to check and see if you have the Legacy 3D turned on (3D Imagery OFF) in your 3D Options settings in Google Earth.

Hi Craig,

I just took a close look at Chicago and I really think that the new 3D Imagery is getting better. Sometimes I have the feeling that there could be more details on some buildings (like the Tribune Tower) but I guess that's still in the making. Other buildings turned out to be better than I thought they would, the Pritzker Pavilion for example. However, I saw some 'mistakes' which I guess are avoidable; some sides of several buildings look like they are covered in some sort of dust. One side of the upper part of the Willis Tower for example, looks like it's covered in dust (but just a part of the upper part which makes it look a bit weird).
I think it would be really useful if there would be a website where people could 'report' such things to improve the new 3D Imagery even more.

Hi Sebastian, I'm glad to hear that you're noticing improvements in the 3D Data. I think the "dust" is an artifact of different or difficult lighting at the time of the photo.  Some buildings can be more difficult than others to capture well.

I'll look into seeing if there's a mechanism for reporting issues in 3D Imagery. Somehow, I think it could be overwhelming to respond to feedback from some of the early data. :)

Cheers,

Some of our buildings have been "coming soon" since May 22. The link to the calendar showing the scheduled updates is not working. When can we expect to start seeing our buildings in Google Earth?

Hi there, we've had quite a few large imagery releases over the past month which have bumped us from the calendar. We're hoping to have a 3D Buildings push this week, so if all goes well, your models could go live this week.

If you have some links, I can check on them.

Best,

Thank you for the response. We have uploaded 222 models for three distinct areas in the City of Fairfax. We just wanted to try to get some idea of when it will be up to let our Planning Director and the Mayor know. We wanted to announce the availability of the 3D models after they were up on Google Earth. I will continue to monitor the forum for updates on the next scheduled upload.

Thank you.

Hi Randall, I've covered the reasons for the recent slips many times already. You can use search in the 3D forum if you'd like to know more, but we look to have a clear shot this week and are on schedule.

I'll update if there are any changes.

Wow. Who is making up the update schedule? Every week it seems to get pushed back yet another week. I don't think you have had an update in over a month! I know I have approved models that have been waiting since May 22nd. Now the schedule calls for an update on June 28th? I'm not holding my breath.

Hi Kelly, I'm looking at your models on the test server now, and I have to point out that none of these should have been accepted with the Google copyrights on your roof textures.

Please remove these asap, and re-submit the each model. Please give it a day as we're currently building the server, but then reapply the textures using the "grabbed" imagery layer in SketchUp.

Here are only two examples:

Hi Joyce, it takes a while to process and we're still working through it now. I would give it about 24 hours.

Hi everybody, It looks like the push is processing and on schedule for going live some time tonight/tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your patience everyone!

Oh, and if anyone's noticed the brand new look of imagery in Google Earth, especially from higher elevations, then you'll know what was being worked on, and what pushed us off the schedule a few times. It looks beautiful. :)

Cheers,

Hi Randall, you don't need to do anything to these models. They've been accepted and should go live in the next push without any need to update them.

The reason that some later models had gone live, but these didn't was that they were in a higher level review when the server was created. What that means is that some later models were accepted at the lower level review and were put into the queue, while the earlier models were still being reviewed at a higher level, and missed out on getting put into that queue in time. They should be in the next push, which hopefully will go as scheduled.

Cheers,

Great news! I just checked my models and it looks like most of them went through. One odd thing though... two that had already been approved and sitting for a few weeks didn't go through (when much newer ones from even this past week did). Do I need to upload these again to refresh them into the process or just let them be? Thanks in advance for checking.
