I just used the new google maps (google sent me an invitation), but when I switch to 3d, I do not see the 3d buildings.
In google maps you only see the buildings 3d auto-generated?

3D Imagery is shown in Earth mode in the new Maps. There is not a 3D Buildings Layer in Maps, as there is in Google Earth, so when you view Maps in "Earth" mode, you'll only see the 3D Imagery.

However, if you are viewing Maps in the Maps mode, when you zoom in to the map, you will see the 3D Buildings.

So although you don't see textured user generated buildings, you do see 3D Imagery in Earth mode, and user generated 3D buildings in Maps mode.

Best,

Wait... our models are on a layer in the new Maps, even in areas that are auto-modeled?

Craig, can you get me a Maps invite??  I requested one on Maps, but haven't seen one yet.

Hi Kat, you're likely to get access to maps very shortly. We're processing tons of invites.

To answer your question, the 3D Buildings shown as wire-frame buildings in Maps mode, are a combo of user generated and Google generated buildings. In Earth mode,  on Maps, you'll see the 3D Imagery buildings.

So... my models are wiped off of Google Maps?  With no warning, Google has done away with support of user-made models for maps?

Well, with Trimble killing the commercial use of updated SketchUp versions today, I am officially breaking up with Geomodeling.  It just doesn't love me like I love it, and my last shred of idealism for it has finally shattered.

And not being able to spin with the mouse on the new Maps?  It's lame.  Everything 3D from GE lately has been a step backwards.  Also the way it's been handled with modelers has been a step backwards as far as trust goes.

Google IS a content-creator.

Craig, this must be hard for you, too.

The breakup analogy was an attempt at ironic playfulness, which of course doesn't translate.

Aubrey- to clarify: on the new Invite-only release of Google Maps (not Google Earth)... your models are still displayed?  Can you post a url or city/county where I can see your models on the new Maps?  Thanks

I recently started modeling (6 months ago) and this change in Google Maps/Earth is affecting my interest in geo modeling...

See the attached image.

Image at the top is Earth mode in New Google Maps... NO user generated 3D models and No Auto generated models as well.

Bottom images in Old Google Maps in Earth Mode... You can see user generated 3D models at least in a place where is no auto generated models.

Cheers,
Gautam

I don't imagine I'll get an invite because Google has found no way to show MY WORKING EMAIL ADDRESS.

I have tried for 4 years to get this issue regarding my Primary Email Address resolved without ANY success whatsoever.
I always end up with the same silly prompt to go in to Accounts and change my primary email address.
However, as I have explained uncountable times, No One can change their Primary Email Address UNLESS they are able to receive a Confirmation Email at that Current Email Address.
So if you do not have access to that current (old) email address, there is no way to receive and confirmation email to accept the changes.

I wish (like many) there was a way to communicate with Humans At Google, especially in my case, with someone who has access to the Account Information.

So between this account situation, where I have not been able to receive emails because no one can get hold of me; changes to GE that make Geo-Modeling at best a hobby for me and now YouTube requiring me to associate my old login with my Google Login (that is screwed with this email address issue), I have pretty much had all I can take with Google Everything and Anything.
