Hello, I have a collection of models loaded for review in 3D
Warehouse. They all look and work fine in SketchUp and Google Earth,
but when I choose "View in Google Earth" from 3D Warehouse the
textures are missing. The buildings are all a dark gray/brown
monochrome.
I'm using the latest versions of SketchUp and Google Earth and all of
the work was done on a Mac. All of the textures are from photo files
except the rooftop. I've debugged the texture shuffle problem and all
of the faces are facing the right way. Also, all of my models have
been rated as "Simple" in complexity, so I don't think size is the
problem. Can anyone suggest an explanation or a discussion thread
I've missed? Help.

Hi Thos,

I can reproduce the issue you described. This may be related to a know
issue that we're checking out. Feel free to visit the following Google
SketchUp Help Center article for a workaround:

OK, I tried the lower-case jpg file names in my photo files and in the
model file on a new model, but I still get the same effect when I
download the Google Earth file from 3D Warehouse. I actually found my
photos had no extension in their titles so I addded ".jpg" in both
locations.

I'm wondering if the technique I'm using to apply the photo textures
is the problem. I will import a photo to SketchUp, select "Use as
texture", delete the photo, and then "paint" it on from the "Colors in
Model". I find the photos are easier to position on the face as a
paint texture.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Hi Thos,

Hmm. I think the technique does have something to do with the issue. I
don't see the textures when I download the model to Google Earth or
SketchUp. It's almost as if the textures aren't being preserved in the
SketchUp file.

Try texturing one wall again, but this time don't delete the
texture ;-). For more info on tweaking textures, check out Aidan's
video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE3I9zsTkQE

Enjoy!

Hi Tommy,

OK, I reapplied all of the textures on the model with "use as a
texture" and made sure the photos' file names were in the lowercase
format etc. I submitted the model again and get the same muddy brown
results.

Now I've tried a test model and used the "use as texture" technique on
one wall and "use as a new matched photo" on two others. The same
thing happens. See http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=781178022aee2ca82c12a88427e1f69d

Could this be a Mac issue? I'm getting really discouraged with this
and I'm about ready to give it all up.

Thanks.

Hello Thos,
I download your model in collada file and extract the photos of the 6
textures that appear in this file, then apply to the facades at
random, because I don't know the position, and everything is OK. In
your skp file only appear 2 photos in black and gray, for me very rare
thing.
You can download the file " skpfile-3.skp" fron this link and play
around with it. If you find the problem, I am interested i knowing the
solution. http://groups.google.com/group/SketchUp/files?hl=en

Thanks for looking at it José. All of my models worked on my computer
(Mac) and even the Google Earth kmz from the SketchUp application.
The muddy brown walls occur when I download the Google Earth kmz from
3D Warehouse. I hadn't tried the collada file but the SketchUp model
files seem to download from 3D Warehouse intact. I looked at your
skpfile-3.skp and it had all of the photos in color.

So, assuming I have the photo file names correct and the muddy brown
walls still appear - there seems to be a problem with the Google Earth
file in 3D Warehouse retaining or reading the photo textures. This is
out of my league so I appreciate any expert advice I can get. I have
over 10 models but none of them can be viewed by others in Google
Earth. Thanks again.

Hi Thos,

This is very strange indeed. When I click on the matched photo scene,
SketchUp crashed. I don't see any of the textures in SketchUp or
Google Earth on Windows machine. However, I can see the textures in
SketchUp on my Mac.

I'm going to look further into this issue, and I'll give you an update
when I get more information.

Many thanks.
