If you’re like me, you’ve had a good model rejected and wondered why. All models are reviewed by a group of moderators [see also How the pipeline works]. This means that a real live person looks at every model to be sure it meets the standards of Google Earth. This also means that there is room for error in those judgements. We are constantly improving the pipeline by providing the moderators with your feedback to improve their training and judgement accuracy.
If your model is rejected and you believe it should be accepted, there are several steps you can take:
- Acceptance Criteria: Double check with the Acceptance Criteria and be sure nothing is missing. Common mistakes are tiled textures or multiple buildings in one model. The acceptance criteria site contains lots of examples that apply the most commonly occurring issues.
- FAQ: Check out the Frequently Asked Questions for Google Earth and Maps. It’s a lot of information, but all very informative.
- Community: This forum! Your fellow modelers are a fantastic resource to help you with the process.
- Appeals: The Appeals process is a way for you to communicate with a senior reviewer and explain why your model should be accepted. We closely monitor appeals for feedback on quality of reviews from the initial review pipeline. You’re directly improving the quality of reviews by utilizing this function.
A little more on appeals... action starts from your model’s page on the 3D Warehouse. At the bottom you’ll see a link titled “Tell us why we’re wrong”.
