Where did you hear this Julio? If this is true (and I'm not calling you a liar) I'm surprised that there is not some big announcement about it.

It is in the Sketchup official blog, and in Trimble's website, the company that now owns Sketchup.

It seems there is nothing to fear about. We all love Google , but it seems Trimble as it's owner will be in charge of the development of Sketchup, and Google will keep the 3D Warehouse and compatibility with Google Earth.

Anyway, let’s wait for a more detailed announcement.

I recently read that Larry Page insists on making a profit from all of Google’s offerings and outlined certain core businesses. 3D was not amongst them.

I fear that Google Earth will be the next to go. I have always wondered why they didn’t do more to earn money from it. A “Streetview” type offering to allow real estate agents to provide tours inside houses seemed like the most obvious one, but nothing was ever developed.

yes
Also when we make a model where a company.
If the company wants.
Why not put advertising "Ad Sense" in the balloons.
The client / owner pays the advertising.
Google makes money, the modeler makes money. "Ad Sense"

sweet dreams

lo que supondra es que este sitio dejara de funcionar,la galeria 3d sera administrada por trimble ,quien ejercera de revisor de los modelos, su rechazo y aceptacion,en fin, tomara el control de todo esto, parece ser una empresa fuerte a nivel global

Somewhere in the blog post, I'm pretty sure it says that Google and Trimble are going to work together, and that teh 3D Warehouse, and Google Earth integration is still going to exist, but that's what I gathered from the blog post.

This could say that modeling for GEdays are counted, Google could go the way other companies are going like Nokia

Oh heavens to Betsy!
(does anyone know what that means anyway?)

It is said that the only thing that is for certain is change itself. Funny how the only consistent thing is the very thing that keeps changing things. Oh ouch, that hurt my head.

But you never truly know what tomorow brings. Think about it; A fresh set of eyes, new ideas (some of which may match many of our past suggestions.) The probability of a massive dump, er....excuse me, I meant massive purge and re-vamp will no doubt be looming overhead (or at least in our heads), but that's not necessarily a bad thing either.  Besides, it is the fool who allows himself to become complacent in a career built upon the necessity of change.

I do admit, I likes me my mornin' cup-o'-SkechUp as much as the next guy/gal/girl/boy/dude/dudette/who ever, and it feels good to be a part of a group like ours. I will be sad if any of this has to go the way of the dodo. But, whatcha gunna do 'bout it?  Huh? The best thing to do is to keep your cool, keep your head screwed on because it won't be helpful if it's rolling around on the floor tripping up everyone.

A famous man once said "It ain't over till it's over." He's dead--we're not.

I think Google Earth is a safe bet to stay put with Google. Google Maps API is paramount to their GPS strategy to get us through trains, planes, busses, Mall navigation and bike routes. Think of all the other generated content attached to GE. Panoramio, 360cities and weather. Indoor photo panoramas of Google adwords clients (that generate income to google) are one of the new offerings on Google's mind these days already. Almost everything in the layers column is not owned by google outright. In fact, Trimble has "outdoor trips" in layers already.
