because all my models are rejected on the grounds that the texture is
incomplete? I am 100% sure that these models are accurate and relist!
I get turned down even if all others accepted quality models are much
poorer

Hi Arris,

It looks like you're using SketchUp textures instead of
phototextures. Phototextures are a requirement for acceptance to
Google Earth's 3D buildings layer. Check out the texturing video
tutorials here: http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/training/videos/gsuge.html
for instructions.

Hope this helps,

Allison

grazie mille

ma questo metodo lo devo utilizzare per tutto il modello? non posso
creare io le varie facce 3d e poi applicarci una textur, tipo il muro
o il tetto?

basta che applico alcune texture fotorealistiche o proprio tutte le
facciate?

in ogni modo grazie

Hello Allison, In the link you provide us for improving texture, there
is a video advising us to use simple colors for small faces instead of
using photo-textures. In my opinion this could be the problem. If you
have a routine that reject models automatically, you have to get rid
of this video, which confuse us.

Thanks

Hi José,

There's no automated routine examining the textures. It's a human
looking at the models. What they're looking at is whether the model
will blend in with the rest of the imagery and models in Google
Earth. SketchUp textures stand out and look too "cartoonish".
Generally speaking, the person examining the model isn't going to
notice small surfaces that aren't phototextured; it's the overall
effect that they're looking for.

Thank you Allison, By the way, could you check the following model; it
was made in a SketchUp course. It is lacking of roof texture, and it
is the 3D layer.

therefore it is sufficient for example for windows instead of using
the texture of wood using a simple brown? and small faces simple
colors?

Hi José,

I've forwarded the model link you provided for further review.

Hi Arris,

Here's a good rule of thumb for whether you can get away with a
surface not being phototextured: If it's a normal building and not a
bridge or some other very large object, look at the 3D View in the
model details page. If you can see the surface from there, it needs
to be phototextured. If you can't see the surface because it's too
small to render in the 3D view image, you may need to consider
simplifying the model geometry. For very large objects where the 3D
View is not a good representation of the model, use Google Earth and
fly around the model at a reasonable distance to check it, instead.
