Dear Mappers & Modelers,

We are planning a "Super Mapper/Modeler" Conference on March 22-23,
2010 to Google's offices in Zurich, Switzerland. While there is no
cost to attend, participants are responsible for their own travel and
accommodations. There will be about 80 attendees who are all top
mappers and modelers from all over the world. The conference will be
conducted in English.

The conference program is still under development, but we’re planning
for it to be a mix of pre-planned general sessions and ad-hoc topics
decided upon and run by the participants themselves. Attendees will
be
a mix of 3D modelers and 2D mappers whose methods and motivations
vary
greatly. With this many experts in one place, we can’t wait to see
what happens.

Attendance is by invitation only -- we are inviting mappers and
modelers who were most active in 2009. We have issued many more
invitations than we can accommodate at the conference, so attendance
will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cheers,

Jen.

Dear Arro,

We are paying for the lodging and travel costs for a small group of
participants who have won mapping competitions, risen to be one of our
top 10 all-time mappers, or organized Map Maker events in their home
countries (http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2010/01/google-map-maker-
ambassadors-party-on.html). All other participants in this conference
are responsible for their lodging and travel costs.

Cheers,

Jen.

Hello Jen,

Invitations have already been shipped? or we can still expect / ask
for an invitation? I had heard about the meeting these days and as I
spent modeling and daily checking models for my collections , it
would seem a good opportunity to meet many people I talk 2 years ago.

Regards,
Nestor Suarez (NESUA)

Nestor, I can help you with your questions on modeling. I work out of
the Google office in Boulder. And I'm helping with the invitations.
Can you please send me a link to your main collection in the
3DWarehouse. Thanks, James.

I wonder if there will be any on-line session at this conference? Or
maybe any recorded one for the later watching. It would great to learn
some new things and tricks about modeling like before when i watched
many of on-line tutorials. I dont expect to be invited with my 30
models so it would be nice to have even such way attend in this
meeting.

I was invited to the Conference, however I am too poor to afford the
Flight and Accommodations .. especially to one of the most expensive
places to travel in the world.
However, I am grateful that I was considered for such an event. It is
an honor to have been invited considering it is a "by invitation only"
event.

Maybe I'll have another opportunity in the future, if/when Google ever
has another similar event, albeit hopefully in Canada or at least
North America.

But I too would love to be able to watch videos of the conference if
Google decides to post any such videos. Like they did for the 2007 and
2008 (I think both years) "3D Base Camp". There are several Very Good
and Informative videos available on YouTube for that conference.
I recommend that ALL modelers view all of these videos, regardless of
your modeling skills and experience. You have everything to gain and
only a few hours to lose ... if you want to consider such well spent
time .. as a loss ?

Anyway, thanks again to Google for the Invitation. I wish I could have
attended.
