a Map Your World - 3D Modeling for Google Earth & Maps
Hello again!
One of my models was rejected for the 3D Layer, and after I appealed,
they asked my to substitute the roof texture for that of Google Earth
imagery.
However, the roof of the building is a continuity of its walls, and
that is a very particular architectural feature of that building.

Check the the model for a better idea:

Here is a picture of the real building: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chardon24/4265592929/sizes/l/

As you may notice, If I use google earth imagery in the roof the
overall model will look very bad, since there will be a clear
distinction between the wall texture and the GE imagery.
If I use projected GE imagery, the walls look bizarre as well, and
therefore I'm left with no choice...
I believe the best option is to leave the single wall texture for the
whole structure, but google earth staff disagrees. Is there any
sugestion on how to solve this problem?
Thank you in advance,
RolandoP

Hello,

I think the reason it was rejected is that the model roof textures
looks too clean and plasticy. Having reviewed your model and the real
image, the real image has small horizontal strut lines running across
it and it looks weathered. If you really insist on using the google
sketchup texture you need to edit it to make it appear weathered and
as near to the real image as possible.

hope that helps.

Stuart
