Haven't seen it on Altopia's (news.alt.net) list yet either. How recently
was the group started?

I updated my NG list about three weeks ago and it already had almost
1000 posts so it's probably been up for a while.

Most ISPs (I don't know about AOL) will add it if a user requests.
