Hi everyone.
Just thought I'd post all the details I have about the upcoming
Science World Demo Days aka the 3d Printer Village at Science World.
When: March 16/17 and 23/24
Time: 9:30am - 6pm (doors open to public at 11am)
We can't get in any earlier so no point in being early. I'll be there at 9:30 to help SW staff get us inside. Keep in mind, you may have trouble navigating the building with your gear if you arrive after 11am as they are expecting as many as 10,000 people....so good luck with that :)
Your name should be on the list at the front door (assuming you gave it to me). If you have any trouble getting in, call me
604-351-8146
Overnight: if you're participating for the full weekend, we can leave everything set up over Saturday night. The room will be locked and secured by SW staff. On Sunday night, we have to pack up.
Parking: I may get a couple of passes (for their staff lot) but won't know until we get there...definitely not enough for everyone. I'll try to be fair about sharing them.
What to bring?
- your printer(s) of course and any filament you plan on using...I don't know if there are any dollys or carts on site (assume not and be happily surprised when they are)
- any cords/cables/etc for power, usb, etc you need. There isn't anything in the room and extras may not be around with others
- any tools you may need to keep your bot going: assume nobody has the M3 allan key you need so come prepared but we'll likely all have lots of tools on hand
- laptop - there is supposed to be wifi available
- Xbox Kinect - if you've got one, bring it so we can 3d scan people. I'm bringing mine along with my laptop - don't forget the extra power cable that it needs that isn't normally needed to connect it to your Xbox
- food/snacks/water - there are options onsite and close by but you may not get away to hit Subway or wherever and you'll likely be talking your face off so stay hydrated!
- comfortable shoes - you'll likely be on your feet all day. There are tables and chairs in our room though so you can take a sit down break
- sample prints - bring your best (and worst) prints to show what your printer can do and how far your quality has come since your first prints
- business cards/pamphlets/etc - if you have them. Keep in mind we're not allowed to sell anything on site. This includes printed items. You're welcome to discuss selling items after the show and outside SW. You can give stuff away.
I think that covers everything I know. Post any questions here to the group and I'll reply asap.
