Bush was indeed running up our national debt.. that's a given.
Aside from that the nation was in great shape until the housing
disaster. Unemployment was basically nil (5% or less is usually
considered nil unemployment). The stock market was peaking.
It all went to shit with the housing crash. Who you desire to place
blame on is fine... blame whoever you wish - I put it on Dodd
and Frank for the most part but certainly many others could
be found guilty. But that's past history. The housing market
had gotten waaay out of kilter. Prices were way to inflated.
Like any other industry (such as the banking industry failures
of the mid 80's) it takes a 'bust' before things can settle back
to where they should be. As a result, home prices have fallen
back to a much more 'reasonable' price.

Two things about the Clinton era -- he was in a very unique situation.
He was the sitting president during the computer outbreak. Suddenly,
everyone was either buying a new computer, new internet services,
new IPOs... he was the benefactor of the new computer age and the
financial world went crazy. Yeah, Bill and Al were great for the economy,
Bill Gates and Al Greenspan.
Secondly, Clinton was forced <via Newt & Co.> to the center.
Many would say this was his "best" time.

That is true... but I'm not sure that was a deciding factor. We'll
never know the answer to that one.

Romney seems to be a pretty honorable man from all
I've read. He had to opportunity to be a spoiled asshole
and yet gave away his inheritance, attended business and
law school <together> and lived fairly meager. There is
nothing in his background that says he was involved in
most of the temptations of youth. He has been faithful to
his wife and his religion, donated millions, and as far as
I'm aware there are no Rezdos or Rev. Wrights in his past.

This has to stop and it has to be done soon. I do not see Obama
reversing course so I'll hope Romney is the one to at least attempt
some major changes. I'll not be holding my breath, but I can hope.
