So I bought a new HP computer. Course - it came bundled with the demon
Vista!
Now, when I try to use various programs that I used with my other
computer with
WinXP, the software refuses to work. Uncompatible with Vista! Programs
that I
purchased .... will not work! Great! Just great! Thanks a lot
Vista!!!
I also had to call Best Buy where I purchased my computer with a
technical
question - and when I told the guy I hated Vista - he said - omg dude,
tell me
about it! Is that the general consensus in regard to Vista? That it
Sucks?
Now I am wondering ... is there any way possible for me to get rid of
Vista on
this new computer I bought - and replace it with WinXP? If yes, can
you tell me
exactly how to do this? Will it cost me extra?
Thanks!
Paris
You need an XP installation disc.
XP is no longer supported apart from critical updates.
So a fresh install of XP will only bring it's own incompatibility issues.
You will need XP compatible drivers for your hardware, I doubt
you will have the faintest idea what that means.
You include statements that betray you are an imbecile in that you
purchased programs that were "uncompatible" (sic), so you did
no homework about compatibility issues nor visit the programs
home site to see if there are patches or updates.
You then ask in this group. You dickhead.
Have you tried running the programs using XP compatibility mode? That works
with many programs. I've only had a few that don't run at all in Vista.
Vista's not as good as it should be, but it's not totally unuseable.
First check the H/W to make sure that XP drivers are avail for your chipset.
Since your old machine died...if you did not have the OEM version of XP on
it,
you can legally use your original XP cd to install on your new machine...
otherwise you'll need to buy an XP cd.

Use Vista's compatibility mode on old programs. See here:-

You didn't do your homework and just ran out there and dropped some
money huh? And now you're pissed. It's too funny.
So far I've not had compatabliity issues. As I run Vista on a HP
machine.
I'm running programs on it predating xp.
Check the websites for versions that will run on vista.
Just take it back for a refund. You're too fucking stupid to use a
computer. Find something else to waste your time with, you miserable
fuck.

You know that's Paris Hilton you're talking too? How dare you belittle
her while she was drunk and on crack.
You name call me? Did I say that I purchased these programs after
I got my new computer? No. I purchased these programs before my
computer died. In fact - a couple of them - I purchased only weeks
before my computer died. Then - after getting my new computer
with Vista --- the programs I purchased refused to work.

Ironic isn't it, Microsoft is where it is today by ensuring each
upgrade was backwards comparable - so you never had to repurchase
software.
CPU's were still being produced with known errors (A20 gate for one),
so ME$ programs would continue to work as the programmer worked around
or would use the error; Fix it and the program wouldn't work.
Every other computer, when they upgraded you never knew what might
work. With the AmigA some of the better games would only run under
version 1.2 (bubble booble for one :] )
I read they (M$) stopped being as concerned about backwards comparable
only a few years ago.

Contact the company you bought it from...hopefully they can help you
upgrade back to XP.
It's sad really. The innocence of so many people scares the hell out
of me. These are voting adults!

You don't have to make things up about her to make fun of her. Grow

Hey now... not everyone has the time to devote them selves to be as
knowledgeable about PCs as many of the people on usenet. There is a time
when all of us have to learn things for the first time.
personally, I'd rather have the public more in tune with what's going on
politically in the world than being PC savvy. But that's just me.
I couldn't agree more.
