Windows 7 64 bit Asus PC:

I just got this printer a few weeks ago but the Brother support tech is
apparently an idiot and they take 1 business day to reply and I can't find
any web printer forums for Brother.

I just sent this to support, anyone have any idea what it may be?

It seems like some kind of windows que spooling problem, but the que seems to
be generating memory sizes that far exceed the actual file I'm printing.

When printing a page or a few, print speed is acceptable, but when printing
more pages it gets very slow. I started a 40 page print job 15 minutes ago
and checked the que and it's still processing page 21. WHAT IS GOING ON?! I'm
trying to print in grayscale with ink saving! And your online chat guy is
terrible! He tells me it's my router! BULL!

and are telling me that the wireless connection is what's causing 3 pages to
take 20 seconds to start printing, but 40 pages takes 15 minutes to start
printing. That's just crazy.

Not necessarily. In what format is the 40-page print job? As a
Word document, *.PDF file, with/without graphics and pictures?
How large is the print file? Size of installed RAM in printer?

How are print jobs being configured? Spool-first and then print?

If the MFC-J6910DW is being used as a group printer, how has the
network administrator setup the priorities for print jobs? Also,
I would have connected the printer via its Ethernet port direct
to the router instead of going wireless.

More info is needed.

PDF

Very little, mostly text.

> How large is the print file?

Usually a 1-3 megs, but it becomes 15-40 megs while processing.

> Size of installed RAM in printer?

No idea - what came with it.

> How are print jobs being configured? Spool-first and then print?

First the windows box processes it in a couple of seconds, then the windows
printer window takes it over ( is that the buffer? ) and takes the long
time.

No, this is a part time home business and I'm the only user.

The router is in the kitchen ( comcast HSI ) but I cn just get a darned
cable and hook it to my PC I suppose, if their wireless is this useless.
Wish I hadn't paid for it, now.

All-in-one printers, regardless whether they are laserjets or inkjets
are not known for their speed. Sending a print job via wireless from the
PC to the router and then wireless again on to the printer is also a
speed-limiting step, not very suitable for large jobs. (The large size
of the print file includes the printer instructions for the formatting
of each page.)

In addition, printing requires bi-directional communications. When the
print buffer is called into use, printing can become very slow.

Do you really need a printer on the network? The best connection is
direct from PC to the printer, using the USB option, in this case, as a
parallel port does not exist.

Why the suggestion for direct Ethernet connection from router to the
printer? Ethernet-Ethernet port connections can run at Gbps speeds
(depending on the manufacture and model); wireless, typically average
around 100 Mbps, potentially 10 times slower.

(Don't blame Comcast; it is not responsible for connections inside the
house but only from its cable to its cable box, router and/or modem).
