Since the last batch of Windows updates; as I click on a newsgroup, I get a
"message cannot be displayed" in the view pane and a MSE popup informing me
that threats are being cleaned - no action necessary.

Is this a bug in the latest updates?

It is probably the result of using a low-grade MUA (mail user
agent) to read Usenet. Try an actual newsreader such as Xnews.

Xnews is OK for downloading E-books, but I couldn't get along with it for a
general news client.

I tried various readers when I couldn't fix quoted text indenting on
WLM2011, didn't like any of those either - ended up tracking down an older
version of WLM that M$ hadn't fucked up yet.

Xnews was designed as a newsreader for text groups with some
limited binary capability. It is strange that you only see it asw
fit for the opposite.

WLM never was and never will be a newsreader. It is even less fit
for that function than Lookout Distress was. Do everyone
(including yourself) a favor and keep looking.

Below we see an example of why WLM is unsuitable for Usenet. The
text added by CC-Cat is undifferentiated from the text that I
added. This is because WLM is not capable of properly quoting a
post when replying.
