You go delete the program off the HD, and it can't run. You may get some
error message that the O/S can't find it if somehow something wants to
run the program. But the program can't run if you go delete it

Failing that, I've had *some* luck with Ccleaner www.ccleaner.com finding
and removing programs that don't appear in the Windows Add/Remove list.
Might be worth a shot. Even if it doesn't do the job in this particular
instance, it's still a nice little applicaton to have around.

You'ld have to be pretty stupid to let it delete "more than crap" since it
asks if "You're Sure" before it does anything while in Tools/Uninstall. I
find it's pretty straight-forward and therefore more (noob) user friendly
than Autoruns there, Meaty.
If I may as bold ?
Do a search for the program and just delete it step by step.
Worth a go surely.
I tried, please don't shout at me if I am wrong.
Mr Pounder
I had a somewhat similar problem with last year's TurboTax. I did
as you advised the OP but I also went thru my HDD and Registry and
deleted all the orphas, files and keys/entries.

That's what I did too was hit the registry searching for the name of the
program in the registry entries and deleted them, when I have this type
of situation.
One can't take the O/S system down, if one is doing the clean up this
way for a standalone application.
Fair enough.
You have not shouted at me.
You always shout at me.
Have I finally said something right?
Mr Pounder
You'll need to format your hard drive to remove it.

Absolutely asinine way to do it. Really amateurish and dead wrong.

But better than having them go into the registry.

Much better but most who are asking here shouldn't be messing with the
registry.
Best answer yet.
As has been pointed out this doesn't eliminate the lines in the
registry.

You're still leaving a bunch of crap in the registry.

And leave it there? Another amateurish response.

Not really my problem is it, since I'm not a noob.

Seems like an admission that Autoruns is just as (possibly more) dangerous
in the hands of noobs than Ccleaner. No, Meaty?

No, you can't take the O/S down for just one app nor can you ALLOW
the O/S to GO down because it got confused by a less-than-correct
uninstall. And if as in my case I want to install the new version,
it is better to have deleted all remnants of the old one.
Cheers!

Generally true, but I thought I'd share what I did and hope they are
careful.
Mr Pounder
:-)
Okay, you are a computer person.
Can you tell me why when I reply to an email the text suddenly shoots up the
screen?
This is a rare occurrence, but I seem to be alone with this problem. Google
dunno.
Using OE until I go Windows 7.
Thanks
Mr Pounder
THEN YOU'RE NOT TRYING VERY HARD!
^_^
Pardon?
Did I have a "reasonable" answer to the OP?

No, it isn't. But it applies here.
I don't trust anything you have to say period.
So you admit you don't know if I'm right or not?
Trust me, I'm right. Deleting a program from your directory tree
without also getting it out of your registry is a short cut that can
lead to big trouble. 99% of the solutions here have included some
reference to the registry and yet you're just to fucking stupid to get
it? Why is that?
+1
...wonder why every thread is like sooo long before someone actually
answer's OP's questions. guess the reason, i am careful with my posting
is because aioe has only 25 posts a day limit... :)

You're opinion doesn't mean much to me.
But at least you admit that I'm right.

Weird.

You can take a right-turn up you butt Lookout for an EEOC.
I'm sure you and George Lopez think that's funny.
