DVD-RAM / DVD-ROM / CD-ROM Drives
Q: I have recently upgraded my O/S to WinXP, and my DVD-ROM drive no
longer functions correctly. Do I need some new drivers to make it
work?
A: We have tested the following DVD-ROM drives with WinXP, and found
them to function correctly:
GD-2000, GD-2500, GD-3000, GD-5000, GD-7000, GD-7500, GD-8000
However, if you have upgraded to WinXP from a previous operating
system, you may find that the drive has not been detected properly. In
this case you will need to follow these simple instructions:
1. Switch off and unplug your PC from the mains.Unplug the drive
completely, both power (a small 4-pin connector) and the IDE ribbon
cable (long rectangular black connector).
2. Boot up your PC normally.Go the Device Manager, and check that the
drive has been removed. If it is still there, you will have to remove
it manually.
3.Shut down your PC and plug the drive back in. This is a good time to
check the jumper switch settings on the back of the drive. There are
three settings, MASTER, SLAVE or CSEL. It is not reccomended that you
use the CSEL setting, as this can cause compatibility problems. There
are two IDE buses available to you - the primary and the secondary.
You must make sure you have a MASTER device and a SLAVE device on one
bus if you are using two drives. If only one device is present use the
MASTER setting.
4.Reboot your PC. When WinXP starts, it will auto detect the drive as
new hardware and install the correct drivers for it.
