I go into control panel, system, advanced, performance, adjust for
best performance but the damned machine, after *some* reboots, changes
back to that godawful green button and the bells and whistles that
Bill loves but I hate.

Can someone gimme a registry tweak or something to make it stop that
crap?

I have 4 other PC's running XP (pro) and none do it but this one.

Thanx!

This part would have made sense, except that you didn't say precisely
what configuration you adopted.

What are you trying to say/describe here?

What does it mean if a machine changes to what 'green button' and what
bells and whistles?

I clicked, "adjust for best performance" & all the boxes were then
unchecked.
That way, all the graphix are like Windows 98

I want this PC to behave like ever other one I own. I don't want the
bottom to be a deep blue color and the Start button to be green. I
want it all to look like 98.

There are other places to change views to classic.

Start/ Control Panel/ Display/ Themes tab - Theme section - use menu to
select Windows Classic.

That will cause the Start button to become grey instead of green and the
taskbar to take on the gray Win98 appearance.

That is not sufficiently descriptive.

Are you saying that after reboot, you observed the previous
configuration of

Start/ Control Panel/ Display/ Themes tab - Windows Classic.

... to have 'automagically' "changed itself" to something other than Win
Classic?

Or are you saying something else?
