St. Etienne are skanks

Vaguely related to this site, seems St. Etienne used a Specials
concert shot for their latest single (though not sure it's as much as
an homage as just showing their fandom). Seems to be from back in the
day. The shot really captures the positive spirit of going to shows
back then - or at least how I choose to remember it : )

I can't recall if I mentioned it on here before, but Stewart Lee's last book also had a homage to the live EP on its cover. He even wrote about it in the introduction. He likens his book to the Live EP in that it is a sort of stop gap book between his first one (which would be Specials) and his next one, which will be more like More Specials. He is a fan.

Yes he goes back a long way. Years ago either him or Richard Herring named Ultra Modern Nursery Rhymes as a favourite album when they were doing Fist Of Fun on the telly.

I've met Stewart a few times socially at pub gigs through a couple of my thespian mates. He's a really nice bloke, but he's miles ahead of me in the conversational stakes. Happily his musical tastes overlap with mine in two or three places. If you like his stuff the books are well worth a read and give a real insight into the workings of his comedy.

I've never heard someone talk so openly about their influences. It's refreshingly honest.

Stewart Lee comes across as a decent sort of bloke. I have seen him TV
a few times singing the praises of The Fall. And any man who is a fan
of The Fall is fine by me.

I don’t really rate him as a stand-up comedian for the simple reason I
don’t find him that funny. I’m more of a Dara O'Briain fan myself.
