I don't know if it will interest many (hopefully it will), but keep an eye out for Cherry Red's forthcoming reissue of 'The Fun Boy Three' album.

It'll have bonus tracks (up to and including the 'Summertime' single), including one which will be available on CD for the first time (if I'm wrong on that I'll have to go scouring amazon etc.!), additional artwork and a sleeve note written by some bloke called Paul. When I refer to first time on CD I mean a CD by that artist. It just struck me that it is of possible that a track might have already been licensed to a various artists compilation and have escaped my (and other Terry Hall fans) radar.

It is a vast improvement of the EMI Fame issue that was previously out there. Sadly 'Waiting' remains in print and EMI have no plans to delete it, so the same treatment cannot be given to it, even though it is perhaps more deserving of a decent reissue.

Re bonus tracks, all efforts are being made to make sure that anything that has been on vinyl ends up on a CD. Attempts to license unreleased material have thus far drawn a blank.

Cheers

I don't mind the FB3. They did some good stuff, but if they were not 3
ex-Specials I doubt if they would have had the success that they did.
And there is their dress sense to deal with with.

To some extent dealt with in the sleeve note, however I glossed over the
sleeve for Summertime!

Tain't what you do (it's the way that you do it) 12" would be nice and
I have a version of Alibi that was issued on one of those NME cassette
tapes years ago that was never issued on any FB3 release before this
would be worth adding as a bonus track.

I didn't know there was a third version of the Alibi. The only ones I was
aware of were the 7" and 12" which have both been on Fun Boy 3 CDs and the
one that's part of Live On The Test. The bloke who compiled the CD either
wasn't aware of the NME one or couldn't get the license. I only got involved
when I was suggested to him by a mutual friend who thought I might have FB3
promo pictures and be interested in writing a sleeve note.

According to EMI there isn't a 12" version of T'aint What You Do! Their
masters have it as TWO tracks: the album version of It Ain't and a separate
track Just Do It. The sleeve and label of the original actually show this to
be the case as their titles are separated by a /. They are segued together
to sound like one track on the original 12". We think this may explain why
the 'extended version' has never appeared on CD. Just Do It sounds really
odd on its own as it has a sudden start, but if you listen to the 12" again
you'll notice it plays exactly as the album version (ending with the sound
of the tape spinning backwards that would launch into The Telephone Always
Rings) and then Just Do It starts without an audible gap. Just Do It hasn't
been on any FB3 CD I've found up to now, but it will be on the new one.

We didn't see the point in spending additional money on mastering up a
'fake' copy of the 12", as this would mean this CD had the same version of
It Ain't twice plus Just Do It, so Just Do It is on there as the first bonus
track, no matter how odd the start sounds!

you can find that version of Alibi below. I bought mine in a Charity
shop a few years ago for 50p I was expecting it to be the same as the
7" or 12" but when I played it it was completely different. I never
thought I would hear something new by FB3 again but I did that day. on
the cassette sleeve it says the track is 3:00 but i'm sure it's longer
than that. I will dig it out later and find out the exact time.

I tend not to be bothered by cassettes, if I see one I know I don't have I
buy it if it is cheap. I guess this is one I need to add to the list of
things I might buy if I ever see them.

I threw a load of (non Terry Hall related) them out a while ago as they were
gathering too much dust and had no value, unless I could find the right
buyer.

Can you all try and pretend I didn't mention the FB3 reissue yet?!

Seems I should have waited for the release date to be confirmed.

We like Cherry Red though, don't we Paul ;-)

As for any other releases they are but pipedreams until licenses are granted
or refused...
