Ha ha totally disagree. Ghost Town without Terry Hall is like life without
curry. Pointless.

The thing I don't understand about Ghost Town and the seemingly never ending
cycle of remixes is that the perfect version of it was made in 1981. Whether
you prefer the 7" or the extended version, CHS TT17 will never be bettered.
Why do people keep bothering?

Well said, Mr Rogers sir.

The original can never be topped- Even that Ghost Dub on the revisited
single was a bit of a anti-celebration of the original.
These remixes aare all starting to sound the same after a couple of
plays but i suppose its nice to know people like the track so much
that they "try" to pay homage to it by doing their own versions.

Willo

I get confused when people agree with me on forums. In fact I'm not sure it
has ever happened before.

Can't we just have an argument please?

Right now we're talking. If you're going to take that attitude, the next
time you agree with me could you at least spell my name properly?

IT'S RODGERS!!!!!1

And, whilst we're at it, I hate being called Mr Rodgers!

Seriously, I'm all for bands making cover versions of the song or band
members making their own go at it, but those tapes, what they recorded in
1981, how they mixed them are about as close to perfection as you could get.
There's not a horn I'd add or take away. I wouldn't speed up the ending or
edit the intro.

Least of all I wouldn't remove a verse. It was the whole juxtaposition of
towns and cites turning from thriving places into ghost towns that the song
was about. You simply cannot take away Terry's boom town part as without it
the song is just one long complaint. There's no memory and no hope of
getting to a better place. As I vaguely recall as a 13 year old, that is
EXACTLY what the riots were about, especially in Brixton (the nearest place
to where I lived) people wanted the streets back.

To the remixers (and this includes Jerry), if you want a song better than
Ghost Town, get of your arse and write and record one!

This person getting angry!

Regarding cover versions I herd somebody covered a Colourfield song
sometime ago but I didn't listen to it because I can't stand the Idea
of someone else singing a Terry Hall song. I hear there is a cover of
Tunnel of love doing the rounds that I also don't want to hear. Terry
has a unique voice that can't be touched by anybody.

Paul Rodgers!!!!!!1 is correct in all he said.I second that :-)

In its original format-Ghost Town is just perfection.Nothing,no
matter how remixed it can be will come close.
I would however, quite like to hear any one doing Colour Field covers
cos thats something you dont get every day.
What drives me insane when it comes to covers is when ska bands do
"Too Much Too Young" and add brass!! (***shudder ***)
