Hey guys, I got my Power Mac 6100/66 machine up and running. It has OS
7.5 installed. Would like to upgrade to the most OS that it will take,
any sugestions? I think its OS 8.1. I also found a mouse that fits and
a adapter that lets me run a regular vga monitor, I only need a
keyboard to make it complete. I would also like to find out how to get
it on the Net, any suggestion?

Thanks for any help that you can give.

Since it is a Power Mac, I think it can go up to OS 9.0.4 - It will be
incredibly slow on that OS though! :o)

I ran 9.1 on a similar machine. A bit slow compared to this MDD/1.25GHz,
but since I rather like OS 9, it was OK.

The OS you end up using will be greatly influenced by the amount of
memory you have installed. I have has 6100/66's with 64mb installed
and ran OS 8.6 OK, but remember they shipped with OS 7.1.2 (depending
on when your's was made). I find that OS 7.6.1 or OS 8.1 are the best
choices for this Mac.

Punch that puppy up to 264 megs of RAM, get a G3 card, I like the
Newer 300 Brand of G3 upgrade card, allows you to run 2 monitors or
run 1 . I run 8.6 and it has been a stable machine and has run almost
24/7 from the day I got it new.
Their very handy machines, you can get some great software for
pennies. Of course your not a speed demon, but in it's day, it was
fast. Yes I have the last PPC made a G4 1.67 and will probably
upgrade, but these old machines worked fine back then at creating a
lot of things and there is no reason they can't be used to do a lot
of work for many projects today.

Frankly most new computers have way more power then the average user
ever needs and all it does is let software makers develop bloatware
and keep pace with the internet which is getting to be more and more
like TV, then the fact filled peer to peer free speech vehicle of the
individual it started out as. I have nothing against all the real
information available but how much Brittney and the next plastic
fantastic lover. Now before I get a lot of smoke, yes a lot of you
need all the power you can get as you make a living from your machine.

Below is one of the best spots for the 6100 on the web. Enjoy your
61, their fun machines and like the Pismo, they seem to have
developed a following of loyal users and still can do some work.
