I grew up in Danbury CT which is a stone's throw from Mary's home in
Redding (also home to Mark Twain's final
home, "Stormfield"). When I was in high school, Mary agreed to be
interviewed by two of my classmates for our school
newspaper...an event they still remember fondly.
Recently, I heard from another classmate about how he often saw Mary
on the platform of the Redding train station(next to a wonderful old
fashioned Penny Candy store I frequented as a youngster in the 50s and
60s), seeing her husband off to NYC in the 1970s. I never saw her
myself, but IIRC she was a customer at my late father's friend's
grocery store in nearby Bethel CT. Art Garfunkel also shopped there,
during his sabbatic-from-showbiz years when he taught Math at a nearby
prep school. Dad often helped out at the store, and I remember him
coming home several weeks in a row, stating, "I saw Artie tonight".
Why the heck I didn't go with him...I don't know. I think he may have
seen Mary as well.
Speaking of Peter, Paul and Mary...when I was a little kid I saw them
sing, "Puff The Magic Dragon" to Carl Sandburg on the Today Show on
the occasion of his birthday. Can't remember if Garroway was the host
then or not. Anyway, Sandburg looked bemused by the whole thing.

News-Times, and a link to her website, which lists the fund earmarked
for donations in her memory, a Healthcare fund at the Danbury Hospital
where she died, and where her mother worked for many years.
