check in Tuesday
first things first,  I am so excited to  announce that today I have finally found a volunteer to go into the school and start providing information to our young hopie adults dealing with, 'Just Say No to Drugs'. Equal chances So-called hopeless ones exist in almost every Twelve Step group.  Included on this list are people who seem different from us. we feel that our chances of recovery are better than theirs.  Sometimes our minds twist the facts so that we can feel superior. ... more »

Check-In .. Tuesday 11/10
Focusing on the positive instead of the negative was the topic at my beginner's meeting last night. This simple concept relates to all challenges of life - big and small. The seemingly unimportant roadblocks of everyday living can be the biggest hurdles to overcome - the bad driver who sets you in a bad mood, the broken shoelace which pisses you off, or even the coffee that spilled and frustrated you. Avoiding rage and anger, and just rolling with the punches (acceptance) is key to maintaining serenity. It has been my experience that coping with the bigger challenges sometimes is easier - job loss, death, or even coming back from a relapse. I need to stay focused on the good things life offers me in sobriety - family, renewed sense of self, the gratitude that living drink-free with a whole new attitude and outlook upon life offers, etc...... more »

Honesty got me sober; tolerance keeps me sober.
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!    November 9, 2009 Quote of the Week   "Honesty got me sober; tolerance keeps me sober."   I didn't realize how dishonest I was before I entered recovery. I had half truths and misleading by omission down to a fine art, and by the end of my drinking and using I was even good at deceiving myself. I didn't know it then, but the practice of being rigorously honest was the cornerstone of my recovery, and without it I never would have gotten sober.... more »

Mumbling and Grumbling!
step 1.  Admitting we had become powerless to alcohol, and that our lives had become unmanageable!. Step 1.  The most surprising miralce that ever occured in such short a sentence. Yes I do mean a Sentence!  Admittance to being powerless to alcohol was like a sentence that was handed down by a jury with no judge.  The Jury being the reasons why I should quit drinking, and the judgement of others that knew I had a drinking problem.  wow Coming to admit that I was powerless over alcohol.  Just think I, yes I admitted that I was powerless over alcohol, and that my life had become unmangeable.  Man do they have a step and half that consists of those that can't manage their lives when people want what is ours and that is happiness.  Happiness comes in many forms and in many ways disguises itself with the ever so present attitude of, "Why should I change, when I'm not the one that has the problem."  Well coming to admit that we,  remember the,  "We" word includes those in Recovery and within the program; we had become powerless to alcohol.  If you are able to go to any lengths to get what i got then here it is Sobriety,  What... more »
