Tenth Mountain Division Foundation Scholarship Program
The Tenth Mountain Foundation Scholarship The Tenth Mountain Foundation will grant five scholarships to financially needy children and grandchildren or legally adopted children or grandchildren of the 10th Mountain Division veterans who served with the Division during World War II.
Scholarships can be used only for payment of tuition, books, or other directly related academic costs. Currently, each scholarship provides up to $1,000 per academic year for not more than four qualifying years of full-time, undergraduate study at an accredited college, university or other comparable institution. Applications for graduate study also may be accepted. Awarded scholarships must be renewed each year.
Only one child or grandchild per veteran may receive scholarship benefits during any given school term. The granting of all scholarships is subject to the availability of funds. Awards are based on descendancy, financial need as described, and to some degree the knowledge, understanding, and support of the 10th Mountain Division history and legacy demonstrated by the applicant. In the event more than five qualifying applications are received, a lottery system has been approved by the Foundation Board to determine successful awardees.
Boddington Scholarship One of the five scholarships will be awarded in honor of William Boddington. The $1250 scholarship is awarded for the first academic year to a uniquely deserving incoming freshman student who demonstrates the ideals and character of William Boddington.
Major Donors to Scholarship Fund The Tenth Mountain Foundation is fortunate that many donors have contributed significant amounts to the scholarship fund over the years to honor specific veterans and units of the 10th Mountain Division. This generosity has permitted the Foundation to continue the scholarship program, and in return, honor these veterans who served in the 10th Mountain Division during WWII.
Financial Need The Tenth Mountain Division Foundation awards scholarships based primarily on financial need. It is the responsibility of the descendant and, if a dependent, his or her family, to obtain a determination of financial need through an accredited college or university’s financial aid officer. The “remaining amount of financial need” provided by the college financial aid officer is the amount that will be verified by the Foundation to determine need for assistance. It is important for the student to work with the accredited college or university to be sure this amount is reported accurately.
