Hi All,

Just a brief note to let you know about plans to celebrate Radeks life.

Heather, a mutual friend of Radek and myself has been in contact with Radeks sister Maggie, who lives in Limerick.
At this point we have discussed the possibility of having a remembrance ceremony in the University.
This could be followed by a get-together in 091-labs giving us a chance to reflect and celebrate Radeks life.

A provisional date for this is Wednesday the 8th of February.

At this point nothing is definite. It would be great to hear any feedback from 091 members as to how best they would like
to have Radek remembered.

all the best,

Alan.

Considering Radek's death & subsequent funeral have both taken place in Poland, surely its only right that some form of remembrance be held here in Ireland. It would give all of us that knew, or even just spoke to him, an opportunity to reflect on his passing. I think he contributed well to the 091labs ecosystem. His death was and still is, a shock to many.

Having given it some thought, I'd personally be more comfortable with a small blessing at a church (even if its just round the corner), followed by a gathering for a few drinks, perhaps a meal of some description and/or a card signing for the family. A traditionalist preference perhaps, but i will gladly go with the consensus of those amongst us that would like to pay their respects slightly differently.

I'd appreciate the input of others on this. Thanks for starting this thread Alan.

That would be really nice. Thanks Alan

Not sure about the church ceremony. Does anybody know if he was even religious? I would personally skip all that mambo jambo from a bunch of ... (better if I stop here)

Hi All, Forwarding on this email from Heather:

*************

Hi,

I'm Heather, a friend of Radek's. I got your email from Alan. I'm a friend
of Alan's and just met JP for the first time recently.

Alan and JP said that ye have been hoping to organise something to mark
Radek's passing. Eamon, who Radek lived with, and his family are also keen
to do something to mark Radek's passing. Some people from the university
would also like to do something. Radek's sister is finding her loss of
Radek very difficult and so won't be able to come.

I think it is hard for everyone to decide what to do. See below email with
suggestions that the university can support. Many are nice ideas but I for
one would find it too painful to think of poetry/music etc. to do in
ceremony. If other people are feeling that they would like to do something
such as poetry/music/say something about Radek, shout????

I am suggesting that we let the university organise a short and simple mass
and then go back to the 091 labs for tea/drink.

Would Wed 8th February suit? Mass about 6pm and 7.30 at labs (JP said this
time probably good).

I also understand if ye want to mark Radek's passing just with 091 lab
members. It is up to ye.

Get back to me either way as think it's best just to do something at this
stage. I am happy to organise with uni and to help with anything else.

Heather

 Liam,

I would be happy to help in any way I can. I suppose it is up to those who
knew the man and miss him to decide how best they would want him remembered
and honoured. They are welcome to come and find me if they want.

I suppose there are innumerable options really, depending on what the needs
are of those who miss him. The College Chapel is available if desired. We
can offer Mass or we can put together a liturgy of reflections, poetry and
music. Or the friends might like to gather in the Remembrance Garden on
campus (near Aras De Brun). Since this student did not die during his time
here, we wouldn’t be able to add his name there, but we could gather and
speak of him and maybe have some music. Later in Spring would be good for
this. It depends on what they would like I suppose

Hi All,

Heather emailed me earlier. There will be a short memorial service for Radek
held in NUIG Chapel at 7pm on Wednesday the 8th of February. This will be
performed by the NUIG chaplain Diarmuid Hogan.

Following the service we will head back to 091 Labs for Tea & Cakes.

regards,

Alan.

Hi Alan:

Where do we contribute towards this? Cakes and such don't buy themselves... do we give you money or what's the story?

Thanks,
Domhnall.

All,

What time would suit everyone who is available to attend Radek's scheduled remembrance on Wednesday 8th Feb?

Alan's friend Heather, who has been in contact with the university chaplain, is wondering whether 5pm or 7pm would be better, since both these slots are available. Does anybody have a preference?

For those that are wondering, the service would last no longer than 20 minutes and has been provisionally been booked for 7pm.

regards, j

5pm is probably not suitable for people on 9-5 schedules.

Hi,

I agree with Domhnall, I think it best to go ahead with 7pm, people who can't make the service for whatever reason can join us in 091 labs for tea and gourmet tart treats at 7.30/8pm.

Alan.

Hi All,

Just a reminder that we will be having a short memorial service in memory of Radek at the NUIG Chapel at 7pm tomorrow. Everyone is invited back to 091 Labs for Tea and Cakes afterwards at approx 8pm.
