Hey everyone,

I know this is short notice, but Lit'n'deb in NUIG have a really interesting debate this Thursday and have had back luck with speakers pulling out at the last moment.

If anyone thinks they could speak for 7 minutes opposing "this house believes that the Internet is the new Big Brother"  you'll be rewarded with dinner out beforehand and drinks afterwards.
You will be opposing Ian Bergin, one of the main players in the stop SOPA Ireland campaign and also blogs about cloud computing and mmo gaming,

For anyone else, feel free to come along to the debate. The night starts at 7pm but you could probably safely turn up at 8pm if you're not interested in the rest of the evening.

Thanks guys

Paul

I can probably manage 7 minutes. I need to know times though - dinner
starts at 7 pm? Or would I have to be somewhere earlier?

Dinner starts at 6, but the meeting itself doesn't start until 8, so you could provisionally skip the starter if you can't make it until 7. Dinner's in Rouge on Dominick St. and you'll be escorted by a committee member and the other speaker by taxi back to the college then. You'll also get free pints galore afterwards in Murty Rabbitt's just off Eyre Square if you're so inclined. You also get the undiluted love and gratitude of the lit and deb for the rest of eternity.

6 would be a challenge, half past is possible, 7 I can certainly do.
Haven't done a formal debate in an age, but what the hell... put me
down for it.

If I could get the phone number for somebody in case of last minute
panics it would be useful...

You, sir, are an absolute life saver. In case of panics, feel free to contact me (Maria Keenan, the auditor) at (087) 4178567. In case of wanting to locate the dinner table, feel free to call the debates secretary (Ruth Cormican) at (087) 2581818. I'll let her know in advance that you'll be a little late, so don't fret. Thank you so very much for this, and if you need anything else, just give me a buzz.

Also, if you could just send me on a text, so I have your number in case of problems as well, that'd be great.

Cheers again,
Maria.

Was it recorded?

Nope. Debates usually aren't unless they are particularly special. Even then, the footage rarely sees the light of day again. No idea where half of it is tbh. I used to record some back in my day and uploaded them here http://www.youtube.com/user/LiteraryAndDebating?feature=CAgQwRs%3D

Not last night though, sadly.
