Regarding the new European research funding scheme, Horizon 2020.
Dear Colleague,

I would like to bring a very important seminar to your notice.

Dr. Sean McCarthy of Hyperion Ltd., will present a seminar in the NUI Galway Engineering Building (Lecture Theatre GO17) on
Friday, February 1st on the topic "Preparing for Horizon 2020" (see flyer attached).

The seminar will take place from 8.30am to 12.00 noon and will introduce the Horizon 2020 programme,
the EU's €80 billion R&D programme, which will run from 2014 to 2020 as the successor to Framework 7.

Given the general economic situation here in Ireland, and the resulting tightening of National funding for research,
I believe that we in the College of Engineering and Informatics need to focus our efforts on achieving funding from
Horizon 2020 in order to sustain and grow our research activity in the College.

I am also extending an invitation to you to invite your colleagues in industry to attend this seminar.
There will be an increased emphasis in Horizon 2020 on innovation and commercialisation, and this is a great opportunity for us to
start discussions with our industry partners about targetting research and development funding sources in the future.

I would ask you, however, to RSVP Sharon Allman at sharon...@nuigalway.ie with any names of industry
people that will be attending, so that we can have an idea of the numbers.

Yours Sincerely / le gach Dea-Ghuí,

Conchúr
