Folks,

Just wondering what people think about meeting up this Thursday for the board games club. What with the proximity to Christmas I reckon attendance will be low so I'm not sure its worth going ahead with. Let your opinions be known here and we'll collectively decide!

Thanks,
Martin.

I could probably be around.

I'll still be around and wouldn't mind going if it's on.

OK folks sorry to the people who would've made it, but I'm calculating 2 or 3 people guaranteed, maybe more but maybe not. I think its a safer bet to skip it and meet again in the new year. So no board games get together this evening :-(

See you all in 2012, have a great Christmas!!!

I've decided to head off for the Xmas now anyway so you could take one away from that again.

Have a good xmas everybody!

OT: what games are proving popular? There are quite a few interesting games even on high street stores over here.

Pretty curious to have some around when I move into the new place.

Dominiion sounds good, and we have enough open floor to do a mean game of carcassonne.

Well, Cyclades is proving quite popular; Munchkin's always a safe bet too. The Pegasus expansion of Battlestar Galactica too, but both it and Cyclades are longer games so it's only worth it in when everyone has the time.

I was seriously starting to nod off during battlestar towards the end, resulting in a huge mistake!

Cyclades is really *long* though. Also Battlestar.

I'd suggest a mix of
2-person games (assuming Fiona plays?)
3-6 player games

and a mix of short/long and a mix of casual/serious games.

Best off finding the local club!

My favorite source is

PS-Dominion!!!

I know its old news by now and has been totally upstaged by Cyclades, but I still think Settlers is the classic!

Fiona plays, but 2 player games are a bit tricky to work. But I will work on getting friends over and such (Home brew helps).

I have always been interested in Dominion, and I am seeing a few other usual suspects (Puerto Rico, and a few others). We tend to favour short games that are quick to setup and play. Tend to be short on time, and there is often some late boozing involved too. So it cant be too cerebral or self-important

Apples to Apples, Taboo are good casual.

Puerto Rico is one of my favorite games. I'll bring it over next time I'm near my games stash.
