I am interested in running a workshop on basic mould-making. Anyone interested in attending?
The course will involve:
- learning the basic concepts of mould-making - the sculpting of clay - making a 2-piece plaster mould from clay form - making a one-off plaster cast from plaster mould - (optional) basic patination for plaster cast
There will be a fee required to cover materials and the course will take place over a few days (TBD)
Please reply if you are interested in attending, details will follow. :)
(also, if you have any specific objects you wish to make moulds/casts of, or any similar techniques you'd like to learn, or any other suggestions please let me know here.)

I would be interested but would only be available on weekends. Would be cool to do moulds of body parts like hands or something. Make really interesting pieces

Okay, we now have seven people within the labs interested in this class. I
assume we'd want to open this up to outside people too?
Also, we'd need an idea as to what resources are needed within the labs
itself - does this stuff air dry, for example, or do we need to fire stuff?
How many people can reasonably do this at a time? That sort of thing.

*Update!

Thanks for the interest guys! Looks like it's worth going ahead with after all.
For the moment I'm happy with 7 people. Any more may be a bit too crowded at the moment. Also, it would be good to practice on members first! :)
If weekends seem to suit, thats great.
So far I'm thinking 4 classes to produce your raw plaster cast, and a 5th class for finishing it with a patina.
If you are willing to put in a class on both Saturday and Sunday then I guess we can get everything done in 3 weekends.
Most of the work will be done on the first day over about 3 and a half hours.
Remaining classes will vary between about 45 mins and and hour if all goes well.
Also, I imagine materials fee will be somewhere in the region of €6 to €8, I'll post it up when I've sourced it.
How does that suit everyone?
@Domhnall: the plaster will air dry, though it may take some time. That would be the main purpose for spreading it over a few days. Though we could help it along by baking it in an oven.

How do people feel about starting on the third week of November?
How do people feel about doing classes on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday evening around then?
Also, it may well be a possibility for me to source some lower-quality (much cheaper) clay and plaster for the workshop.

Ok, I'd like to cap it at 8 for now. By the way, this is my first workshop. If it's a success then I would feel more confident opening one to the public. (Also there is some exciting talk of combining a few workshops into a focused series.)

The third week of November may not be a good time for me.
Next week I'll post up the times I intend for the classes. (and maybe try to tie it into the proposed prototyping series.)

Workshop postponed for 2 weeks. I need more practice with it, and to get the hardware room in a more suitable condition. Apologies for the lateness of this post, and the previous mis-post!
