and Chad Bryant. I have to wonder why Mr. Sanchez has not
decried this type of behavior on the part of his Cru brethren?

but I will assume for the time being that he is referring to
anti-gay/lesbian (more generally, anti-queer) bias (strictly
speaking, homophobia refers to fear of homosexuals and,
unfortunately, a large number of anti-queer bigots aren't so
much afraid of queers as much as they just hate them, often
using various arguments based on religion or "nature" to
justify the opinion that homosexuality is unnatural and depraved).
Again, I've seen "homophobic" displays on RSPW but relatively
few on rspw.mod. Again, I have not seen the Cru rise to the
occasion and stand against the anti-gay/lesbian posters there.
I can say with some pride that *I* have stood up to the racists
and the "homophobes" on RSPW (my postings are available via
deja if onyone wants to verify this statement). Curiously, I
received no support from the Cru, especially when it came to
dealing with the "Sith Troll Cult" which Mr. Gancarski, "Minister
of Information" for the Cru, finds no problem with.

By "Christian" I will assume that Mr. Sanchez is referring to
*all* denominations that claim to originate with the historical
figure known as Jesus of Nazareth, which would include Catholics
in addition to the Protestant sects which self-consciously refer
to themselves as "Christian". I wonder if Mr. Sanchez would
also include such non-mainstream religions like the Mormons
under this "umbrella term"? I am sure that Jeff Amdur can say
one or two things about this as wll. I haven't seen too much
religious bigotry on RSPW outside of the Sith Troll Cult's
attack on Chad Bryant's Church of Mormon membership, which
Mr. Gancarski seemed to imply that the Cru had no problem with
(in fact, when publicly asked if the Sith Troll Cult was okay
with the Cru because of their attacks on Mr. Bryant, his
response was basicly, "yeah, in part"). I have seen very
little religious bias on rspw.mod, whether it be pro-Christian
or Anti-Shinto or Anti-Buddhist or Anti-Mormon.
Although I can smell what Mr. Sanchez is cooking, I believe he
COMES off a little too shrill in making his points. Moreover,
I think that Mr. Sanchez ignores the fact that there are places
on the internet, such as rspw.mod, where his comments have little
merit and little relevance. That he chooses to express these
opinions here on rspw.mod instead of, say RSPW, is a curiosity
because, as I have pointed out above, there have been *many*
opportunities for members of the Cru to directly address these
particular points on RSPW. But they chose either not to address
them or give the expression of the jingoism, racism, sexism,
"homophobia", and anti-religious bias their support, as in the
case of Mr. Gancarski's expression of support for the Stith Troll
Cult. All too often, when *I* have confronted people like the
Sith Troll Cult members or "Johnnie-12-inch", the Cru was nowhere
to be found, their voices strangely silent.

The mods approve or reject on the basis of the correspondence of a posting
with the Charter of rspw.mod. The fact that I am responding to this indicates
that the mod who approved it (who might even be the person you referred to
with the Nazi-tainted title of "Herr Netcop" -- certainly no could accuse you
of bias, Mr. Sanchez), did see the relevance of what you were saying since
it provided *your* view of whom *you* see as the "typical" wrestling fan on
the internet, no matter how insulting it was or how little relevance it has
to the typical posted on rspw.mod (which raises the question of whether you
view wrestling fans off of the internet as being better or worse).

I'm sorry but if that *is* the case then you should have changed the Subject
line to [Non-Workrate Cru] instead of leaving it [Workrate Cru] or you should
have made this comment in the very beginning instead of the "Herr Netcopp"

this point in your posting, so your "disavowal" is probably ineffective.
There is the added problem of the members of the Cru being guilty of either
the behaviors Mr. Sanchez decries or of giving aid and comfort to the people
who engage in this type of behavior, such as the Sith Troll Cult.

to agree with it, disagree with it, or simply to ignore it. We can do likewise
with the contradictions *his* position has with the observed position of the
Cru.

Well, "having fun" with the accusation that most wrestling fans on the net
are jingoistic, racist, sexist, "homophobic", and religiously bigoted is a
strange way of "having fun". Moreover, I will assert that Mr. Sanchez will
have great difficulty in finding evidence for this assertion from the postings
on rspw.mod. I would also assert that Mr. Sanchez would have great ease in
finding evidence for this assertion on RSPW, especially among individuals
that the Cru has publicly expressed their support for. But, in point of
fact, that kind of evidence is not relevant here on rspw.mod where most posters
seem to respect each other, in the main (and even when they don't, are fairly
restrained in their expression). I fail to see the relevance of Mr. Sanchez's
comments and opinions to the readers and posters of rspw.mod. Perhaps he
may care to explain this, as well as the Cru's support for the very things
that he decries.

Because I don't see the Cru as an overall positive force for
online wrestling fandom. The Cru have realized that they have
to be more careful about impression management and damage
control, that's why you'll see fewer of the type of postings like
Cru Minister of Information Tony Gancarski's bashing fans in
grief over Owen Hart's death. Is the Cru capable of doing
some good things? I would say yes and that it puts them on a
level higher than the Sith Troll Cult which does very little
that is positive. Nonetheless, I see an underlying meanness
and contempt in the Cru for the common fan which, I believe,
will have bad effects on Usenet wrestling fans (i.e., the
readers of RSPW*).

I'd like to make the following suggestion though I understand that
it will require a genuine commitment of time and effort: collect
all of the Workrate Cru's postings both here on RSPW and on rspw.mod
and review them for:
(1) the attitude that the Cru member displays towards the person
he is responding to, especially for condescension and arrogance.
(2) how often have they tried to portray *their* view as the
*correct* one (i.e., focus on workrate to the minimization in
importance of ofther factors).
Ultimately, you have to ask yourself, why did the Cru come into
existence and what is their real purpose.

As I made clear in my posting, these terms are slippery and their
use depends upon whether one has a low threshold for applying these
terms (e.g., just using racial slurs or hate speech) or a high
threshold (i.e., actually engaging in behavior that has a negative
consequence on a person's activities or ability to achieve certain
goals -- The Sith Troll Cult's activities against Chad Bryant, I
believe, could be argued as falling into this category, especially
with their activities to have him TOD'ed and in having his website(s)
hacked). I believe that Gabriel Sanchez's posting "Tropics and
Meridians", which assumes that the average U.S. wrestling fan is white,
straight, patriotic, and Christian and goes on to assert that this
type of fan is racist, homophobic, sexist, nationalistic, and
intolerant of other religions does cross the line. I don't believe
that if the a person happens to be a white male that it's okay to
deride, demean, and defame that person SIMPLY because he is a white
male. You and Sanchez may feel otherwise and you're entitled to your
opinion. But don't be surprised if I and others take issue with
it.
BTW, using Usenet postings, I admit, is a very limited way to know
and to understand what another person is like. At best it might
give you a vague idea of what the person is like but the nature of
the medium that Usenet operates in (i.e., text-only messages), imposes
real limits on what a person can learn about another person. And,
as Kurt Vonnegut pointed out in a essay, the process of re-writing
and revision will allow an initial piece of writing that is incoherent
and devoid of logic, to become more comprehensible and appear to be
more logical while the basic ideas are still flawed (he was talking
about how certain individuals with crackpot ideas who would never
be taken seriously in "unvarnished" form, seem to earn respectibility
once these crackpot ideas are dressed up and put into certain types
of stylistic form [the style of expression is good but the content
is crap]). So postings, after review and revision, may seem to make
more sense or give a certain impression (especially if one is concerned
with impression management and damage control) as a result. Unless
you knew the Cru personally, you cannot say for sure whether they
are racist/sexist or not. However, from their own postings and their
support of or lack of support for the racist/sexist/religious intolerance
of others (even if it is a "Sin of Omission") does provide evidence
that ther either are or they endorse such a perspective.

matters of pro-wrestling is one (by IH, I mean establishing oneself as the
final judge as to what if good or bad, right or wrong, quality or trash,

when the Sith Troll Cult attacks him for his race, his religion, his
"perceived" size, attack his wife and his unborn child. Ask John Henry
whether it matters that people here have called him a "half-breed" and
other derogatory things because of his American Indian ancestry. Why don't
you ask ME whether it matters that people call me "dothead" because they
believe I'm a Hindu or attack me on the basis of membership in a middle
eastern ethnic group.

I my other posting, I have one of your postings on Chad's ethnic/racial
background, you should be able to find it without too much difficulty.
You and the Sith Troll Cult have commented on his ethnic/racial
background in a derogatory fashion as well as using such slurs as
"Mongoloid" (the non-derogatory term is "Down's Syndrome" but that
doesn't pack the insult content that "Mongoloid" has). What else
do you need to justify the claim that you're bigoted especially
when it comes to Chad Bryant?

I know. I thought it was a fairly weighty allegation to float without
substantiation, and that ticked me off, so I snipped it to its essence and
researched it.
I would have been very surprised if it had been true, since I have nothing

that there can be various "thresholds" that people can have in deciding
whether a person is a non-racist or a racist. Why don't you look at

I'm not 100% sure, but I have a feeling he's already done just that.
I've used this example before, but since you've conveniently forgotten
my explanation of the best way to handle a troll like that, I'll tell it
again: My relationtionship with flux is that he's a long-time friend.
Because of that friendship, I choose not to take him to task on issues
we disagree on. It's similar to going to a family reunion and having an
old relative say something objectionable. Because of your relationship
with him, and knowing that making a scene about it isn't going to change
his mind, you simply ignore the bad behavior. I do the same for my
friend.
You, since it suits your purposes to put me in a bad light, stretch

*real* friend, you chose to call me on my negative actions, rather than
turn a blind eye to something that I did that was disappointing to you.
REAL friends stand by what they believe in and have no problem standing

Several months ago, I made a statement in which I referred to my
ex-partner as a 'fag crackhead jew.' Now, regardless of the fact that
he *was* all three of the above, the remarks were tasteless and smacked
of homophobia and anti-semitism - two ideologies which I personally
abhor. What made them so was not the inherent anti-somitic or anti-gay
sentiment in the words in and of themselves, but the fact that I was
intending to be disparaging about his sexuality and ancestry when I
wrote them. I was wrong, the remarks were indeed inappropriate and
racist.
In regards to thereference to your being 'lily-white,' I did *not*
intend the remarks to be in any way indicative of any feelings I may
have about your hypothetical ancestry (remember, for all *I* know, you
could be black, asian, middle-eastern, Amerind, or whatever). I *did*
intend the remarks to be an indictment of your pampered, sedentary
lifestyle, with all your 'important' friends that look down their noses

My 'shitty life,' as you call it, has been 'shitty' for maybe a year,
Stink, and it's getting better all the time. My 'shitty life' has been
filled with good times, a wonderful child, major contributions of time,
materials, and cash to major charitable organizations (including the
UNCF *and* the JADL, by the way, as a part of an anti-hate benefit show
outside of Madison, WI in 1988). I have loved, I have learned, and I
have enjoyed my life. Today, I have recently started a new job in which

That's precisely correct, although there have been times - lean times -
when I have regretted that decision, I know that I, personally, would
never, ever be happy following the beaten path. Sure, when I lost my
business, I wished I had something other than my wits to fall back on -
a degree would have been nice. But overall? Hell no. The only benefit
to being in college is the shingle and the chicks, and frankly, I've had
more than my share of beautiful women in my time, and I seem to do okay
without the shingle, albeit perhaps not as consistently. I left high
school because I was BORED, Stink, and I avoided college for the same
reason. But the simple fact is, I didn't have the proper attitude to
earn a scholarship, my folks weren't rich enough to send me, and I had
too much shit I'd have rather been doing then being a fry cook at a
campus commissary to get a degree which may or may not be of any benefit
to me *and* possibly lock me into a life I didn't want anyway. No,
stink, I'd have much rather done what I did than spend time in a
college. The life I've had is not for everyone, and that's fine - it's
just the arrogant shits like you that think your fucking sheet of paper
makes you any less an asshole that piss me off. I have nothing against
college, it's just not for me.
And besides, Stink - look around. The majority of people that *do* have
degrees aren't as capable of expression, aren't as verbally skilled,
aren't as mathematically skilled, and don't possess the intelligence
that I do. Give up 4 years of my life because one day, I might be out
of work for a few months? Feh.

is easy work, try it some time. Been a year and a half at SCW, too.
Not that these are 'jobs,' per se, although they are certainly *work*,

before that I was a tool and die maker for nearly 4 years. Prior to
that, I drove a taxi for about three years. And 'I've been with my
current employer since just shortly after I was fired from NCSU. Now,
that takes us back to the age of 19, Stink...and that's just the *main*
jobs I've held, it doesn't include second jobs, and doesn't mention that
I continued playing and touring actively throughout most of that time.
And the traditional jobs I've held have generally been pretty decent,
and I've held them at my leisure until I decided to leave. There is
*one* exception to that, Stink, in 14 years of employment. *ONE*. And
you presume to sit in judgment on me over what you know - or think you
know - about the last 18 months? Kiss my ass.

rewarding, but only in the most fortunate of cases does it pay enough to

along saying "There are good postrs and there's me, the best"....this is a
shoot. I single handedly changed the way RSPW was run. I took over the tWo.
I had my stooge D|sciple kill it off finally. I changed the direction of
RSPW parody feds with help from a few friends. I took a stance against
trolls that everybody loved. I was the WINNER of the RSPW 1998 Asshole of
the year award. And just recently I was named one of the Top 10 funniest
RSPWites. Look at my credentials. I am RSPW.
