It's called an anarchy. It's moderated by those motivated to make an effort
at keeping dickheads off the group, whether they're passing fake news,
throwing racist or homophobic flames around, or just being irreconcilable
assholes. It's usually pretty easy around here, unless you're a homophobe,
bigot, or other variety of obnoxious, ignorant ass.
And AOL is one of the biggest spawning grounds for idiocy, although WebTV
has been doing an admirable job of catching up.
May I suggest that you spend a little time here before *you* start dictating
the rules? There are rules, regardless of whether there is moderation.
For instance, posting a flame to a guy that's well-known and well-respected
(usually) here for doing a public service, and then having the amazing gall
to post it in HTML (big no-no on non-binary newsgroups), won't necessarily
get a letter sent to your ISP...the first time. However, to continue doing
so after having been enlightened to the conventions or Usenet (called
'netiquette') would likely not only end up with a couple of notes to your
ISP, but about 50 people letting you know that you are not welcome to post
here, because you are not yet evolved enough personally to participate at
the maturity level required for the level of discussion we attempt to try
and maintain here.
And as this letter attests, we can even be nice to clueless newbies;-)
I did the same thing when I first got here, so I'm being nice. Very nice,
as you know if you've ever seen me really flame someone. And, I can
always respect someone that stands up to anyone claiming any kind of
authority anywhere. But, some order is away necessary. Get used to the
place, get to know us, and let us get to know you, before you start trying
to throw your weight around.
If you click on the URL in my sig, it'll take you to my homepage. Follow
the link for RSPW. Therein is a link to the RSPW FAQ (which will soon be
joined by several other FAQ's/guides to posting, such as those written by

Read it.
And never take anything at face value here until you get to know who the
real insiders are, and who the wannabe's are.
As for me, in all honesty, by *best* 'inside' information comes from the
'net, much of it from this newsgroup, or pages/newsletters operated by
people that post here.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the cesspool.

>Your arrogance is simply amazing
That's because you don't know me. I'm arrogant because I've *earned* it,
Sparky. Been there, done that, and if you want to make a big deal about it,
I'll happily oblige you. I got the brains, I got the looks, I got the
money, and I got the stroke, to have your account pulled--right now. All
you have to do is turn off the HTML formatting--if you have even the native
intelligence to figure out that simple procedure--and there's no problem.
You've been given good reasons why, and nobody's going to think you rolled
over for me or anyone else if you do.
Now, I've been nice. I'm tired of being nice, because on those rare
occasions when I am, some little pinhead like you makes me regret it. So,
screw you, this letter's been forwarded to ab...@erols.com and
webm...@arc.com
Like I said, if the health of this newsgroup doesn't mean enough to you for
you to take 3 seconds and change your posting format, then your opinion
doesn't mean enough to me to NOT complain to your ISP. Very simple, which
is why you probably won't get it.

Just great. I'm sure your webmasters will be impressed. Good bye,
dickhead.
>SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go stalk someone, Bob.
It's raining-I'm not driving today.
I know why you are so determined to "define" conduct on rspw. Because this
group is your substitute for real interaction with people. RSPW is obviously
the only forum in which you can operate, not outside with real people, face to
face. It has become your world. When somebody will not conform, you feel
threatened, as if your world was being taken away from you. Oh, no, you may
loose all of your internet buddies because so many people are posting crap that
this newsgroup might just get too traffic intensive for your ISP to carry. Oh
no, oh no!!! Waaaaaaa!!!!!! How would you survive. Let me tell you, if
this group gets pulled it's most likely because it's a group about
"professional" wrestling. I can hear them now: "well, we need to either dump
the wrestling group, or the thyroid support group.....isn't that wrestling
stuff just a bunch fixed matches to perpetuate fan interest and sell product?
Axe the wrestling group tomorrow!!!" Not because people are posting high
bandwidth.
You consider yourself a well respected contributor to this group. Boy, that's
something I wish I could put on my resume. "Well respected participant in
internet group on professional wrestling" Ha ha hahahahahaha!!!!!!!
Careful Bob....that might get forwarded to his "abusemaster"....
--
"It's time to get EXTREME!" -- Paul E.
John is fully capable of answering for himself and this posting
shouldn't be construed as my speaking for him. That being said,
I'd like to make a couple of comment.
Er, "Skullhead" is that your first or last name? It would be
nice to know the name of the person one is addressing. I'm
sure that you wouldn't want people think that you're hiding
behind a psuedonym.
>I know why you are so determined to "define" conduct on rspw.
Actually, John is not trying to "define" proper conduct on
rspw, he's pointing out violations of proper conduct. The
internet has been in existence for close to 30 years now.
During that time an online culture has developed that has
defined what proper conduct is, generally referred to as
"netiquette." Some of the proprietary online services have
developed independently of the internet and have fostered
a different ethos which in recent years, because of the
intrusion of these services into the internet, have caused
a clash of values. In other words, clueless newbies still
don't get it.
>Because this
>group is your substitute for real interaction with people.
Excuse me for saying this, but someone who goes around with
the name "Skullhead" really has no business postings fantasies
about people he/she/it has never met and doesn't really know.
Of course these fantasies may represent your opinion about
John but you should then insert IMHO or IMDO somewhere. I'm
sure that many people here can tell you where to insert it.
>RSPW is obviously

Er, if you don't care for pro-wrestling either as a form of
entertainment or from a business perspective or from a social
history perspective or from a cultural perspective, why are you
bothering to read this newsgroup, much less post to it? As
for bandwidth considetations, you should really look into it.
It will help to explain why your email shows up late or not at
all as well as why a posting you make shows up a day later.
>You consider yourself a well respected contributor to this group. Boy, that's

I don't mean to get personal here but, in grade school, did your
teacher ever indicate that you had problems getting along with others?
If so, then you should be aware that you have some long standing
problems that need to be attended to, Skully.

>I know why you are so determined to "define" conduct on rspw.
Oh, this ought to be gooood. Especially since I'm not 'defining' anything,
merely attempting to enforce what is a commonly known Usenet standard that
has been in place since before most of the peple on this group knew what
Usenet was.
>Because this
>group is your substitute for real interaction with people.
Oh, really?
You know, you must be right, since *normally* when I interact with people, I
do it on a stage in front of 800 ot 1000 of them.
>RSPW is obviously
>the only forum in which you can operate, not outside with real people, face

>face.
You see, this is where you've got it backward, probably because you can't
imagine someone having the cojones or attitude to get away with what i do
here IRL. However, as anyone that knows me can tell you, I am (or rather,
can be) just as much an opinionated, arrogant jerk in real life as I am
here. And there is a good reason for that; I am perfectly capable and
wiling to back up my words wih action, if necessary. Now, IRL, I much
prefer to take a person thta *thinks* they have a problem with me, and
talking it over with them, and 9 times out of 10, the quickly realize that I
am right, and their anger is misdirected. However, to make the mistake of
thinking that I function any differently here than I do anywhere else belies
a near-total ignorance of who I am, and what I am about.

Boy, you are really stupid. I mean, I just cannot imagine what would lead
someone that is as obviously ignorant as you to the facts of my daily life
to attempt to make such statements.
But, if you really want to know about my social life, stop by the Brewery,
or Lake Boone Trail, or better, ask anyone that is involved in the Raleigh
music scene. Or better yet, since I've kinda kept my head down here, talk
to my friends in Detroit, Chicago, AnnArbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids,
Rockford, Cincy, Toledo, Cleveland, South Bend, Indy, Springfield,
Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison, LaCrosse, New Berlin, Minneapolis, St. Paul,
or any one of a hundred other cities that I've palyed in in the last 14
years.
Of course, most of them have unlisted numbers, and the chances of a regular
fan finding them are slim to none...'regular fans' have this problem with
guys like me in not realizing that we are human beings, with a need for
privacy.
See, you don't know who I really am, Sparky. All you know is what I choose
to tell you. For all you know, my real name might be Pepper Keenan. Or Jon
Bongiovi. Or Rick Wakeman. OR Cueball Carmichael. Or Otto Wanz. Hell,
for all you know, I could be Ric Flair himself. All of the names above have
homes, businesses, or other interests in the Raleigh area. YOU DON"T KNOW.
Assuming that just because I enjoy RSPW and take an interest in seeing that
people follow the established protocol necessary to ensure that our group
continues to propagate means that I am a lifeless computer geek with nothing
better to do is ignorant.
Has it occurred to you that I may have been successful enough in other
endeavors to allow me the necessary free time to do what I want, when I
want, where I want?
>Oh, no, you may
>loose all of your internet buddies because so many people are posting crap
that
>this newsgroup might just get too traffic intensive for your ISP to carry.
Ironically enough, my ISP would be one of the *last* to drop a group for
excessive BW. Bellsouth is *huge*, and they don't really worry about server
space much. On the other hand, several *other* group member's ISPs are not
so large.
And as to my 'Internet Buddies', well, there just aren't that many of them,
and having this group removed wouldn't effect my e-mail anyway.
>Oh
>no, oh no!!! Waaaaaaa!!!!!! How would you survive. Let me tell you, if
>this group gets pulled it's most likely because it's a group about
>"professional" wrestling.
Jerk. What is your prejudice against p-w? And fwiw, popualr demand is a
much more convincing appeal than altruistic usefulness when it comes to
keepig a group on a server.
>I can hear them now: "well, we need to either dump
>the wrestling group, or the thyroid support group.....isn't that wrestling
>stuff just a bunch fixed matches to perpetuate fan interest and sell
product?
>Axe the wrestling group tomorrow!!!" Not because people are posting high
>bandwidth.
It's not even the high BW, it's the *improperly formatted* bw. Posting in
HTML can easily increase the size of a message by a factor of 4 or more.
The entirety of that increase is solely due to a few ignorant, arrogant
assholes that think that their 'artistic' talents are more important than
the survival of the group. Bottom line is that while a 300-line post about
the right way to post will *not* get a group pulled, an 8-line text message
that takes up 50 lines because it's in HTM *will.*
>You consider yourself a well respected contributor to this group. Boy,
that's
>something I wish I could put on my resume.
Whay would I care what's on a resume? I'm self-employed, and independently
wealthy to the degree that resume's will *never* be a concern of mine.
>"Well respected participant in
>internet group on professional wrestling" Ha ha hahahahahaha!!!!!!!
Hey, you really don't have a clue, do you? Do you know how much money there
is on this group? Do you know how many people make some portion of their
living off the information to be found here? Do you know how many people
read this group? Do you know *who* reads this group? Conservative
estimates place the number around 45,000, and I've seen well-cited estimates
ranging in the 100-120k range. Out of 120,000 people, thus far *4* have
chosen to attempt to tear me down for trying to protect the little corner of
Usenet that I call home. To balance that, at least that many have publicly
supported me, and at least a dozen more lurkers have e-mailed their support,
including a couple of well-known wrestlers and sheetwriters that I will not
name; if they wanted their positions or opinions made public they would post
them here.
So, bottom line? Your amateur psychology is pointless, your assessment of
me is not only erroneous but laughable, and I am convinced that I have the
full support of the regulars on this group, or at least the majority of
them. Until Francine, Mark Mero, Dave Meltzer, Wade Kelller, Bob Ryder,
Mike Palij, Scott Keith, Conn MacKintosh, or *any* of the other respected
regulars here tell me that they want to see HTML on the group, in defiance
of Usenet standard, I shall continue doing as I have done for the last
year--doing what I can to make sure that RSPW stays on the net, stays
active, and stays reasonably idiot-free.
Maybe you ought to look around a bit before jumping someone, skinner. I
take it upon myself to try and make this a reasonably cool place to be, and
to eliminate any and all threats to its existence. Everyone here knows
that, just like everyone here knows that Scott Keith is the 'real' net.cop
or RSPW. Just like everyone here with a brain knows that you just don't
post HTML or binary files to a non-binary newsgroup. Period. It ain't
about me, bub.

You talk as if you were famous. I don't know if you are or not but the

A whole lot of words with very little reason to believe it.

Not really. The trolls seem to always have free time and I doubt many of

Not to speak for John, (who does quite well on his own) but I have been
following this whole saga and all John is trying to do is to get a handful
of people to quit acting like jackasses. Some people are spamming the
group with every idiotic thought that pops into their little heads and some
people are insisting on posting binaries in this NG when they should not
be. Chances are these people are the ones who are socially retarded, not
John. John has the ability to form a coherent thought and make an
intelligent point while being able to have a discussion without using the
ever popular "shut up" as a reply.
You mentioned that John wants people to "conform" to his ways, there is a
difference between wanting someone to "conform" and wanting them to act
like an adult and have a little respect for the internet community.
And yes, I know we can just add these people to our killfiles, but adding a
new person every few days gets tiresome. Having people exhibit a little
common courtesy would be nice.

Absolutely---but you *dis*believe at your own risk.
And, truth be known, I'm nobody you'd necessarily recognize from TV, as
every time I'm on TV it's behind a drum kit. The only people I've spent

I'm not even necessarily into the opinions of the masses. It's just a

If guarantees can be (or have been) worked out to prevent "czar abuse", I
think this is a reasonable solution we all can live with. The true Net
abusers will be bonked; and most of us will still have killfiles to filter
out our personal morons and trolls. The remaining task would be to get
ISP's to carry both Usenet and Usenet 2.

this in this thread if I don't have this exactly right.

And it's intentionally both a little heftier, and a little lighter, or maybe
a lot both ways, than the actual truth, which, like each and every one of
you, no one but I will ever know.
Like I said, I *could* be Ric Flair.
I'm not, but I could be, for all anyone knows, or can know, for sure.
But if you bothered to scroll down this far, you might find out a little
more about who I am...
If someone were to ask me, I might tell them that I'm definitely a former
(and future, believe it) touring musician. I'm also a successful
businessman, that owns several internet businesses. I might also tell them
that yes, I do stand IRL the same as I do here--very strongly for what I
think is right, wherever I can. I was fortunate enough to be born with
brains, looks, and talent, I am, however, unfortunately a little lacking in
the modesty department. I got lucky, and so far I've managed to do fairly
well with it, well enough that I can a) sleep at night knowing that I have
tried to do what I think is right, and b) afford to waste time in some
alarmingly large chunks on this newsgroup.
Actually, my posting freq will likely go down a bit soon, as I am making
changes to several programs and a website between now and Christmas.
I might tell them that I'm 27, long-haired, half-Cherokee, and a drummer
that has (you'll love this) a problem with questioning authority. I do it
too much to suit the taste of most authority. I have been like that since I
was old enough to talk. Much of my life would sound, frankly, cliche were I
to repeat it here, but I have toured with various bands in various parts of
the country, and have even managed to make MTV a couple of times. No, I'm
not saying more than that, because, frankly, the possibility, while perhaps
less than I may portray when I'm ranting, does exist that someone, people
that would bother me about appearances and suck, may be here on the group,
and would promptly begin to do so. Not that I mind the attention...first
requirement for membership in the musician's union is that one must be an
irretreivable egomaniac. I'd simply, at this point in my life, rather not
mix those three aspects of my life.
However, sick bastard that I am, love it when people underestimate me,
because it leave me space to rip them to shreds--that applies anywhere.
IOW, I am enough of what I say I am to support what I have to say. I'm never
a liar. I tell the truth, and people jump to conclusions. I simply choose
to not disabuse them of their notions for not only my own pleaasure, but the
enjoyment of all. Definitely been there, definitely done that, but.
I'm *not* Ric Flair ;-)

First, I'd like to say I'm honored to be mentioned in the above company.
Second, I wish to point out that all I did was post the ab...@aol.com
address, and look what happens.
Everything I do seems to get out of hand.

AOL abuse of Usenet is not a problem emanating from the user level.
Somebody higher up on the ISP scale is failing to educate its users
properly about netiquette and the "chaos" effect violating netiquette can
wreak.
I think it's time, ladies and gentlemen, to begin an all-out assault not
only against the trollers and spammers who threaten the existence of this
newsgroup in their small but quickly cumulative ways, but also against the
online services and Internet service providers who allow this crap to go
on, and indeed ignore it in the interest of garnering profit.
It's come down to money, ladies and gentlemen; any sick, selfish asshole
with the $20 to plank down to access the Internet is now able to do so
without fear of reprisal. Let's show the people making shill off the abuse
of the Internet that their present policies are not helping the cause
here.
I would suggest, finally, that if anyone currently holds an AOL or WebTV
account (the more flagrant abuse seems to originate from those services),
they might want to switch online services for a little while. Let's all
e-mail these people explaining why we will begin killfiling any account
from these services and push for changes to their enforcement of their
Terms of Service agreements. My apologies to those who may feel this is
unfair, but your online services are not doing their part in keeping the
Internet free of abuse. It must start with Usenet.

Why is Sting in line for a title shot? The dude hasnt fought in like 84 years
I think..... WCW is out of control!!!!
The sign of the times is the X!!
Save the Drama....... DX ...........
It's called marketing. Sting's been out for over a year (not counting the
Giant-Luger-Sting triangle matches seen at house shows early in 97). They
needed excitement surrounding his return to milk it for every penny it was
worth.
Some time ago they started the long, drawn-out question of where his loyalty
was. Then they made it apparent that he was anti-nWo (not necessarily
pro-WCW). Hogan-Sting is the culmination of this angle. It will produce
incredible buy-rates for Starrcade, proving it a success.

As soon as they idiot-proof the world, a better idiot will come along.
No, FunkyM was kinda stoned out of his mind at the time. In fact, FunkyM has a
lot of trouble recalling much about the past, oh, decade or so.
>Oops. I can trust you, right?
Sure! Enough that you can should make FunkyM your new accountant to handle all
that burdensome money you make.

I thought FunkyM was only six years old?
FunkyM's busted, baby...
Just a thought
Jeff, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing :)
If you are *really* interested, hit http://www.usenet2.org
Short version: it's a seperate system, like AOL and Prodigy are separate
systems, but just happens to be carried by the same transport mechanism
as The Big 8. It has nothing else to do with Usenet. (Kind of a bad choice
of names, really.)
Usenet's not going anywhere. Unless we don't fix it and it dies :p

That's all well and good, but the ISPs need to take up space in their
servers to hold the spam. When the spam gets excessive, either the group
gets cut or the ISP needs more space. More space = more money being charged
to the users.
>I dont condone anyone SPAMing or mail bombing or trying to organize

We're not trying to screw anyone. We just want the ISPs to start
enforcing their ToS agreements and/or start EDUCATING their users (I think a
big step would be for AOL to disallow access to USENET using the "50 free
hours" disks they send out on a daily basis. Hell, I got 2 this week
alone!)

Say what?! This has been going on a helluva lot longer than DX or the
nWo!

You're just now realizing this?

And you sound like someone AOL should take off their "50 Free Hours"
Mailing List.
It's been a long six years.

And here's today's trivia quiz:
John Henry is:
a) The adult version of one of the two Chris Partridges from "The
Partridge Family"
b) Pete Best, just happy to get a gig after those other three dorks
kicked him out of the band
c) Max Weinberg
d) Keith Moon, who has really been faking us out all this time
Seriously, JH, now I'm curious. I know a fair share about the biz,
having made a living playing music on the radio for two decades...
and dutifully paying ASCAP/BMI/SESAC...
Are you like an L.A. session guy? A Nashville session guy? Were/are
you in a band? Can you get me backstage at "Up With People?" Do you
have blisters on your fingers?
