This is a port of Free Lossless Audio Codec Library 1.3.4 to MSDOS/DJGPP.

FLAC is an Open Source lossless audio codec.
FLAC is comprised of
* `libFLAC', a library which implements reference encoders and
decoders for native FLAC and Ogg FLAC, and a metadata interface
* `libFLAC++', a C++ object wrapper library around libFLAC
* `flac', a command-line program for encoding and decoding files
* `metaflac', a command-line program for viewing and editing FLAC
metadata
* player plugin for XMMS
* user and API documentation

The libraries (libFLAC, libFLAC++) are licensed under Xiph.org's
BSD-like license (see COPYING.Xiph). All other programs and plugins
are licensed under the GNU General Public License. The documentation
is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License.

DJGPP specific changes.
=======================

- The port does not support being compiled with assembler optimized
code. This also includes disabling SSE support.

- The port also does not support being compiled with XMMS (X MultiMedia
System) support.

- The reading/writing stream is switched into O_BINARY mode. If the
stream is connected to stdin/stdout/TTY, then Ctrl-C and Ctrl-Break
are re-enabled so the user can interrupt the program.

- Apart from those changes there are no other user visible ones. Only
some small changes have been done to get the library configured and
compiled.

- Not all tests of the test suite will pass. There are 64 bit issues
that I have no plans to fix. Also the test suite requires a port of
the "which" program and a port of the "dd" program that supports /dev/zero.
AFAIK, all this is not available for DJGPP. The test scripts have
been adjusted to not terminate in case of error. Instead they will
output a message like this:
Expected to fail with DJGPP
and some test specific error message will follow. The test suite
runs for around 30 min. in a virtual machine with Win98SE as OS.
On plain DOS this may take even much more time.

- To build and use this port the latest DJGPP ports of libogg and
libvorbis:
http://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2tk/logg135b.zip
http://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2tk/lvbs137b.zip
must be installed.

- Because the library name libFLAC++ and the directory name Flac++ are
illicit on plain DOS, they have been renamed to libFLACXX and Flacxx.
This has the consecuence that Makefiles that use this library must be
adjusted accordingly if this port shall be used.

- To configure and compile this port at least the following version of
Bash, Make and pkg-config are required:
http://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2gnu/bsh4253b.zip
http://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2gnu/mak43br2.zip
http://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2tk/pkc023b.zip
No previous versions will work nor are supported. Any future version
should work.

- Newer versions of the FLAC library like 1.4.N have issues that I was
not able to solve so I will not port them to DJGPP.

- The port has been configured and compiled on WinXP SP3, Win98SE and
MSDOS 6.22 with DOSLFN v0.41f. There is no guarantee that this may
be possible with any other DOS-like OS. Due to the use of long file
names it will not be possible to configure and compile without LFN
support. The port has been compiled using gcc346 and bnu2351b.

As usual, all djgpp specific files (diffs, README files, etc.) are stored
in the "djgpp" directory. The sources have been configured to be build
in the "0build" directory. If for some reason it does not work for you,
delete its contents and configure from scratch again.

Please read the docs to become familiar with this product.

Here is an extract of the Changelog file showing the user visible changes
from the last port (Free Lossless Audio Codec Library 0.0.0) to this one:

This is the first port. Read the documentation.
