Hello! In case you didn't know, the Spring Thing is a competition! You
can enter games into it! It has an entry fee, but it also has prizes!
It's happening soon! I could say more, but this link says it all!

Okay, a few updates with the Spring Thing. If you're an author who was
thinking about entering the Spring Thing, you should know that the
intent-to-enter deadline is approaching, with the other deadlines
coming soon after that. The update is...

Well, earlier this week I did a double-take and realized how late in
February it was, and I realized I had meant to make an announcement
about the Spring Thing a long time ago. Because I did not, *I am
extending the intent-to-enter deadline*. If you want to enter the
Spring Thing, you may now send me your intent to enter anytime before
noon, EST, on *March 5*, rather than March 1. The other deadlines
remain the same; see the "simplified rules" below for more details.

Another update is, our prize situation is pretty good this year,
thanks to three donations:

$70, donated by Stefan Donati.
$70, donated by Kate McKee.
A $50 Teaching Company gift certificate, or $30 in cash (winner's
choice).

Thanks a lot to the donors!

A third update: I have received intents to enter from three people so
far, and only one of those has sent me their entry fee. I hope we do
get at least three entrants, and of course we could get more, since
there is now a week for people to send me intents to enter.

If you're a player, consider judging the competition in April, after
the games are released. The overall quality of the games is usually
pretty high, which often makes the competition a pleasure to judge. Or
so some people say.

If you're an author thinking about entering the competition, here are
the "simplified rules":

1. To enter the competition, you must first submit your intent to
enter by March 5, telling me your game's title, a brief description of
it, your name, and the country you live in.
2. After you hear back from me, you will next need to send me a US $7
entry fee. The deadline for this is March 15. See the rules page for
further details on this.
3. Finally, you will have to send me your game, of course. The
deadline for this is March 31. Your game must be finishable and
playable on at least Windows and Mac OS.
4. If you do intend to enter the competition, then you really should
read the full version of the rules, not just this simplified version.
Read them at:

That should be all. If you have any questions about this, email me at:
