Over the last couple of month my Real Palyer connection has stopped working
when i try and access it from a client PC. My network is a SBS 2003 with the
lastest windows update but SBS has yet to be updated with SP1. Any suggestion
on what is going on or how i open a port or check that a port is open so that
real player can work again.

HI LMI,

Welcome to SBS newsgroup.

Issue description:
==============

I understand that you encountered problem when using real player on the SBS
domain on one of the client computer.

Analyzing and suggestion:
==============

In order to isolate the issue, we need to gather more information:

1. What is your SBS edition, premium or standard version? Do you have any
router installed on SBS domain?
2. Does the issue occur on all client computers or only occur on one of the
client computer?
3. Do you have any third party anti-virus or firewall program on the client
computer? Please temporally stop it to see if the issue can be resolved.
4. Do you encounter any problem in accessing the internet from this client
computer?

For your convenience, I would like to give you some article that can help
you configure the real player on the Windows 2003 domain:

Please note that we only need configure the SBS server if you have ISA
installed:

To configure RealPlayer to run on a client behind ISA server, then follow
the steps above or these instructions:

Modification to ISA Server Configuration:

Go to the "Protocol Definitions" under the "Policy Elements" container and
create a new protocol definition. Call it RealPlayer1.
On the port number box enter 554, type should be set to TCP and direction
is outbound.
On the Secondary Connections window, select Yes to add secondary connection
Click new, then add UDP 6970-32000 inbound and select OK.
Click new, then add TCP 6970-32000 inbound and select OK.

Then create another new protocol definition. Call it RealPlayer2.
On the port number box enter 7070, type should be set to TCP and direction
is outbound.
Click new, then add TCP 6970-7170 inbound and select OK.
Click new again, then add UDP 6970-7170 inbound and select OK.

Go to the "Protocol Rules" under the "Access Policy" container and create a
new protocol rule
Select Allow on the Rule Action, click next.
On the Protocols windows, select the drop down list of Apply this rule to,
and choose Selected protocols.
In the protocols box, then check the 2 newly created protocol definitions
above,
RealPlayer1 and RealPlayer2, then click next.
In the schedule windows, select Use the schedule as Always, then click next.
On the client type, select Any request or if you have created a client set,
you can select Specific computers (client address sets), and click next.
Click finish,

This completes the configuration of the ISA Server.

Now we need to configure the ISA Client:

Install the ISA Firewall client from the Server.
Open Real Player 8.
Select Preferences from the View menu.
On the Proxy tab only select the No HTTP Proxy radio button and select OK.

The RealPlayer are now configured to work on the ISA client.

If you have no ISA installed, you might have to contact with the hardware
vendor to see if the ports referring above is opened. Please also contact
with real play software vendor for additional supports.

I really appreciate your understanding on this issue; please feel free to
post back your results. I am happy to be of help.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

HI LMI,

Thanks for updates.

It seems you did not check my suggestion about ISA policy and realplayer
setting, although only some of the client computer encountered this problem
and no problem in accessing the internet, please double confirm the ISA
setting on both the ISA server and client computer. Make sure that you have
used ISA firewall client.

(You should use the ISA 2000)

Thanks for your efforts.
