Hello,

It is finally happening! The Environment Agency - that had already wooed the open data movement last year by distributing DTM and DSM rasters of up to 25 cm resolution for most of England - started to also open their raw LiDAR point cloud archives. Yesterday the Environment Agency announced on their blog that the first chunk of LASzip compressed LAZ files went online. It contains around 16,600 square kilometers of survey data that was captured between July 2014 and November 2015, equivalent to 10 times the size of greater London. The remainder of their point cloud archive, for surveys going as far back as 2005, will be released by the end of June 2016 ... (-:

Germany, Poland, France, Czech Republic, Austria, Norway, Sweden, ... you are becoming increasingly uncool - geospatial speaking as more and more European nations are embracing open data. When will you follow the great example that Finland, Holland, Denmark, Spain, England and others are setting? Stop holding our LiDAR hostage! You used our taxes to pay for that data ... )-:

Hi Berns,

No these data do not contain full waveform data, as our sensors do not have waveform digitizers.

Hi Berns,

If you (or anyone else on the list) are interested in full waveform
LiDAR for the UK, data acquired by the Natural Environment Research
Council (NERC) Airborne Research and Survey Facility (ARSF) using a
Leica ALS50-II with waveform digitiser (operated from 2010) can be
downloaded from the NERC Earth Observation Data Centre (NEODC;
http://neodc.nerc.ac.uk/).

Data are acquired for specific research projects so only cover small
areas. They are normally available to download one year after being
delivered to the project PI. Full waveform files are provided in LAS 1.3
format.

You first need to register for a NEODC account and then apply for access
to the ARSF archive
(https://services.ceda.ac.uk/cedasite/resreg/application?attributeid=arsf).
Anyone can apply for access but it might take a couple of days for it to
be granted.

Some projects with full waveform data are:

New Forest:
http://browse.ceda.ac.uk/browse/neodc/arsf/2010/FW10_01/FW10_01-2010_098_New_Forest

River Tamar: http://browse.ceda.ac.uk/browse/neodc/arsf/2014/BAS13_01 -
A number of flights for a CEH project. Days 62 and 63 have full waveforms.

(Note you will need to have access granted before being able to view
these links)

Full waveform LiDAR data from other countries (France, Spain and
Malaysia) are also available from NEODC.

Thanks,

Dan
