I am using PE3 and it allows the Adobe Downloader to kick in as soon as I
connect my Canon camera. This causes the system to crash as my Canon
ZoomBrowser starts at the same time. I prefer to use ZoomBrowser to download
my photos, so how do I turn off the Adobe Downloader so that it will not
kick in upon connection of my camera?
Many thanks.
Eos.

Although the Adobe Download Manager can be reused to download other files
from Adobe in the future, you can remove it from your system by using the
Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.

In the Organizer, go to Edit -> Preferences -> Camera or Card Reader, and
turn off "Use Adobe Photo Downloader". If you wish you can also remove the
downloader by following the instructions here:

Eos,

jfitz gave you several options, and my question is: Are you using the camera
to computer connection? Have you looked at using a card reader? Most Radio
Shacks carry the Dazzle line, that have very good quality desktop designs,
and are very stable camera memory card readers.

However there are many different inexpensive plastic case model that sell
under ten dollars and are perfect companions for laptop computers, But you
will quickly discover the plastic cased card readers were not designed for
repetitive use, as the dazzle products.

If I understand correctly Canon's ZoomBrowser EX software downloads the
images from the camera onto your computer. ZoomBrowser is also an image
viewer, that will let you check out the camera settings stored in the images
(Exif info), and do some processing of Canon's RAW file format.

ACDSee, Compupic, Thumbs Plus, are outstanding image viewers that display
all info about the images.

I do not know if the free irfanview will provide the Exif information. -

A great one is the Exif Image Viewer by Michael Kowalski - it is very
customizable, although it has a bit of a learning curve.

Or the fast - OK Exif Reader by Ryuuji Yoshimoto

For Raw processing you should look at the free Raw Shooter software that has
taken the camera industry by a storm.. Windows only software -

But if you have a late model camera and a cannon printer - you have some
good color options staying with their software
