I am planning to start my next production on The Possessed by Dostoevsky.

I found two digital scans:

OK, that's fine. Pick the latest scans and just use those - no point in
trying to get more than one scan and figuring out the differences
between them.

David, can you manage this with Robin reviewing?

This one has some alternate translations for the title that's also
commonly known as, so check the manual for how to represent those in the
metadata.

I have started working and right off, I have a question.

The work is divided into parts and each part has chapters.

Additionally, each chapter has divisions in itself with the divisions annotated using roman numerals.

The closest work which shows this kind of division is Brother Karamazov where the work is divided into parts, parts into books and books into chapters.

How should I separate the work? The segregation into parts and chapters is obvious but what about intra-chapter divisions?

I also went through the Gambler where the chapters are just roman numerals without any titles.

Maybe we can do something like this: part->chapter->division with appropriate metatags? Epub3 also has a subchapter metatag but that is deprecated.

Subchapters are fine (here’s an example from Nietzsche: https://github.com/standardebooks/friedrich-nietzsche_thus-spake-zarathustra_thomas-common/blob/master/src/epub/text/chapter-59.xhtml). If it’s removed from the spec we can always replace it with a class or some other semantic across the whole corpus easily enough.

I’m happy to review after you’ve done that bit and pushed it, if you want a thumbs up.

Progress update:

I am done with the first proofreading for Part 2.

This project is really long. I am planning to finish Part 3 by August end but it will be just the first pass.

The second pass will likely take a month or two more.

to the story? I'm not convinced it's a good fit either because it's

I agree with your thoughts on the last 3 options.

Okay. A clarification question: The "public domain" tag on WikiArt is not acceptable?

No: it either needs to be a CC0 grant from the owner of the painting (with a few very explicit minor deviations that are noted in that manual article), or a photographic reproduction of the painting in a publication that also falls into the public domain.

There are differing opinions about what constitutes public domain or not in this area, but as we’re redistributing our works back into the public domain we’ve chosen to take a strict line on this. It’s not always easy to find just the right painting, but it’s definitely possible. If you need any help, please ask.

The manual explains the art selection rules in great detail. I would read up on the section and make sure you understand it thoroughly (especially the FAQ) before you return to the search.

Hi Alex.

I have not been able to work on this for the last couple of months.
It is mostly done except for getting the proper cover image and then filling the colophon etc.

But as it is said - "It is not done till it is done."
I am also swamped with other higher-priority work items.

I will try to complete this by March end but I am not giving a guarantee.
If not by this March end, then I think it's better if someone else either takes it up or does a refresh production.

So sorry for stretching this production.
