What _is_ it with gun nut Elmers and rapid fire? Do they think that
pulling a trigger as fast as they can finally makes them men?
They pay some $8 to the Freddies to get the combination number to
the Rincon gate, then they drive their quads or motorcycles up past
all the signs that say NO SHOOTING and MOTORIZED VEHICLES NOT PERMITTED
BEYOND THIS POINT and they park and start shootig from the road --
and pity the hiker that has to scramble behind boulders to avoid
being murdered by these gun nut mother fucking rightards.
God damned fucking Republicans, no regard for the law. None. Not
a care in the world that there's people hiking along the Shortcut,
and people camping in the canyons.
The USFS will some times send a Sheriff with a gun up there after them
if an armed Sheriff is handy and try to arrest the gun nut rightards,
but most of the time there's only Freddies available and they don't
have the jurisdiction to hobble the rightards and confiscate the
gun nut's firearms.

Service or the Sheriff. The Sheriff doesn't come into the forest, and
the USFS has no jurisdiction in the county.

A similar incident happened to me many years ago in the Cleveland National
Forest. I'm sure many gun owners are conscientious and safety conscious,
but it only takes one idiot to ruin the rest of your life. Anyhow, some
morons we're doing target practice from the side of a road, firing up a

yards from the highway -- and 50 yards from the road repair crew.

Yep. Most go to the Burro Canyon Shooting Range just 2 miles
up East Fork Road to do their lawful shooting. The Gunnery Seargent
there is a guy I know who likes to be called "Gunny P" because he
still thinks he's in uniform. }:-}
You wouldn't believe the things I've seen gun nuts up there do. I've
had them shooting 30-06 from the highway into canyons, and I've had
them setting up bottles along the white line past mile marker 29 where
the gate is closed since the Williams Fire, standing at the gate and
shooting at the bottles -- despite the fact that people with keys to
the gate come down the mountain all the time.
And two days ago I was coming up after getting resupplied and at mile
marker 19.77 there were a whole bunch of gun nuts in a side canyon
off where the road repair crew is running a tar slurry over the turnouts
that survived the recent road reasphaulting. They were not 50 yards
from the center line of the highway shooting off into the canyon,
laughing, doing rapid fire, being complete idiots.
As I mentioned, I always report these idiots -- whether they're gun
nuts or whether they're drunk -- to the Freddies and they send someone
or their get on the radio.
That same day there was a bunch of rapid fire Elmers shooting up on
the rincon Shortcut. A bunch of Elmers had acquired the combination
to the gate previously in the week and were up there when the road was
closed since they don't change the combination until Saturday morning.
They had driven their quads and motorcycles up the Shortcut and were
up there shooting despite the NO SHOOTING signs they passed on their
way up there.
People hike that Shortcut. It's a great hike that leads some 33 miles
depending on how one takes it all the way from Highway 39 up to
Highway 2, Angeles Crest Highway, a lengthy, exhausting hike only for
people who are in good shape. And rightard gun nut mother fuckers
were shooting somewhere up there along it.
The drunk gun nuts are probably the worst.

More likely, you don't understand that "rapid fire" is a relative term.
For example, 60 rounds per minute is rapid fire for a bolt action rifle, is
slow fire for a semi-auto rifle, and isn't even on the map for a fully
automatic rifle.
So "rapid" fire depends very much on a definition since it is relative to
that which is being "rapid fire(d)".
