Twilio Cloud Communications – APIs for Voice, VoIP and Text Messaging

This weeks JSWeekly had a pointer http://goo.gl/je87r  to a nifty robot project:
  Build a Phone-controlled Robot Using Node.js, RN-XV WiFly, Arduino and Twilio

It uses Twilo: http://www.twilio.com/ and indeed the blog post above is theirs.  They say:
Twilio provides infrastructure APIs for businesses to
build scalable, reliable voice and text messaging apps.
Twilio uses Amazon Web Services to host telephony infrastructure and provide connectivity between HTTP and the public switched telephone network (PSTN) through its APIs

Have any of used it or know others that have?  It sounds pretty interesting, but not sure how cost effective it would be for things like our ambient work.  But heck, if a robot uses it, it can't be all bad!
