*CSSSA 2012 – Annual Conference*
*September 18-21, 2012*
*Santa Fe, NM*
* *
*Keynote Speaker: *Paul Torrens, University of Maryland****
* *
Computational Social Science (CSS) is a scientific discipline where
computational methods and simulation models of social dynamics offer new
insights into social phenomena beyond what is available with traditional
social science methods. ****
** **
The CSSSA 2012 Conference will bring together international practitioners
of CSS to present peer reviewed research via computational social science
methods.****
* *
*CALL FOR PAPERS*
** **
*Submissions*
Papers and posters concerning computational models of social phenomena are
requested; models from all social science disciplines are welcomed, but to
be accepted a submission must present an implemented, functioning computer
model or simulation; submissions that do not present a functioning model
will not be considered.****
** **
*All submissions, including posters, will be subject to peer review. *
** **
*Papers*
Papers should be submitted in Springer’s “Lecture Notes in Computer Science
(LNCS)” format. Papers should be no more than 12 pages, including
bibliography and all figures. In addition to the paper itself, all models
MUST be documented using the Overview, Design concepts, and Details
protocol (see http://jasss.soc.surrey.ac.uk/13/4/9.html). This must be
included as an attached addendum to the submitted paper (merge with the
paper into one single document, with a blank page separating the paper and
the ODD addendum.) The ODD documentation is not counted toward the page
limit. SUBMISSIONS WITHOUT THE ODD ADDENDUM WILL NOT BE REVIEWED AND WILL
NOT BE ACCEPTED. (Note that although the ODD protocol is designed for
agent-based models, submission is not limited to agent-based models: any
functioning computational model can be submitted. However, the additional
documentation is required of all models; for non-ABM models this should
follow as much of the ODD protocol as is possible.)****
** **
*Posters*
• Posters presentations can be submitted for review.****
• Poster submissions require only an abstract of < 800 words.****
• Poster submissions must indicate clearly that they are being submitted
only for a poster presentation.****
** **
The Program Committee and conference organizers may request that
submissions for papers be converted into posters, or vice versa, depending
on scheduling and content.
*Publication Policy*****
Papers will be placed online in advance of the conference; attendees will
be able to view and comment on them during and after the conference. In
lieu of printed conference proceedings, papers will remain publicly
available online in perpetuity after the conference. (Posters will not be
archived.) Authors retain the copyright to their work, but participants
will be asked to sign a document giving permission for their work to be
made available online. This permission is a requirement for participation
in theCSSSA 2012****
conference. You are advised to consider this publication policy carefully
when submitting papers pertaining to work that you may also wish to submit
to other publication venues. If your paper is accepted, and you attend the
conference, then your paper will be published on the CSSSA website (no
exceptions).****
** **
Presenters are strongly encouraged to archive their models in the model
repository at OpenABM (http://www.openabm.org/) to advance the field of
Computational Social Science.****

*Note*: If you will be unable to arrive for the Wednesday AM sessions,
please note this when you submit your paper or poster; while we can make no
guarantees, if your paper is accepted the conference organizers will
attempt to accommodate you by placing your presentation later in the
