I've seen many people creating unofficial Whatsapp groups. I'm surprised that people are unaware of the consequences of sharing their personal info on public forums like this. I wish IIT Madras Moderators take this into consideration and stop encouraging students in joining or creating unofficial Whatsapp groups in which they are potentially sharing their personal numbers and information.

For now, the alternative is to join a Slack channel where you NEED NOT SHARE YOUR PERSONAL NUMBER. Simply join with your email address using the below invite link.

Until IIT Madras takes upon themselves to create an official Slack or Discord Channel (which is just like Whatsapp groups but much more organized), I think this is the best way to go forward for now. We can even create channels according to students' cities or the states they belong to so they can keep in touch and stay connected with their tribe!

Being Data Science students, lets' value ours and others' Data Privacy and stop sharing personal information with strangers(yes, strangers!).
