I'm interested in using HYCOM data for boundary conditions to a higher
resolution nearshore FE grid, specifically I am looking at adding 3D
UV salinity, temperatures and elevations along the offshore boundary
and as initial conditions within the model domain. The idea is to add
the UV and elevations data to tidally generated currents and
elevations generated from a higher resolution tidal constituent file,
extrapolating the data to the model time-step, so specifically what I
need to know is if HYCOM data includes tidally generated currents /
elevations or if these have been removed.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers

The output currently served for the real-time global systems do NOT
include tidal forcing. We do not plan to implement tidal forcing in
the real-time system until we are running at 1/25 deg resolution.

Joe,

Is there an ETA on when the Global 1/25 deg resolution outputs will be
available?

We have one non-assimilative 1/25 deg simulation completed over the
time frame June 2007 - Dec 2010, but I am not sure if we are ready to
serve it yet. I don't think we've looked at it hard enough yet to know
how well we have implemented the tides.

With regard to this thread, we probably won't have a real-time 1/25
deg data assimilative system running with tides until near the end of
the FY, and then it will only be pre-operational, with the potential
for many changes.
