has the possibility of chrome os on faster opengl ES 2.0 compatible
ARM laptops been considered, or is the total exclusive focus on
getting chrome os to install on x86 hardware at the expense of all
other possibilities?

tia,

l.

p.s. yes i have a request outstanding with toshiba for the GPL linux
kernel source, u-boot source code and the android source code and
build toolchain, in order to be able to consider the above.

We continuously build for a variety of arm-based targets at all times.

Hi Luke and Chris,

Yes, Thoshiba AC100 is bunch of configurations (many 10x) based on main Nvidia Tegra 2 (250) based system.

http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/b2c-toshiba-ac100/

I am specialty interested in this 10N EU version

TOSHIBA AC100-10N / 10, 1" LED / NVIDIA Tegra 250 1GHz / 512MB / 32GB SSD

I have only concert if default 512MB RAM will by sufficient for Chromium OS.

Toshiba site refers then:

AC100: 512 MB (onboard) | maximum expandability : 512 MB | technology : DDR2 RAM (800 MHz)

Plus if there is any way how ARM based GNU Linux (e.g. Chromium OS) can be installed there ?

Nice day
Rudolf

mmm... yerrs... it probably means that it's a POP
(package-on-package) or just a hard-wired chip onto the motherboard.
a hi-res photo of the motherboard would be helpful.

i specialise in reverse-engineering to get linux onto ARM devices
(including ones which are running wince, as well as GPL-violating
binary-only android linux kernels). never actually been paid any
f****** money in my _life_ for doing that, but i can do it :)

fortunately, toshiba are a very large company, based in japan (where
copyright is enforceable) and selling the AC100 in the UK (where
copyright is enforceable) so a GPL cease and desist order actually has
"meaning". unlike in china.

i have a request outstanding, being actioned by the toshiba linux
group on my behalf, to obtain the full SDK from the Toshiba AC100
development team. it will include the full linux GPL kernel source
code, full u-boot GPL source code, and probably the android 2.1 source
code which i will happily ditch with much celebration and cackling,
and, also most likely, a gcc / binutils toolchain.

the linux kernel source and the u-boot source are _the_ critical
time-savers, as will be the SDK build instructions (which i've already
received).

with those, it's an easy step from there to create alternative images
that can be flashed to the drive by pressing the right u-boot "loader"
keys (as outlined in the SDK build instructions).

Nate Taylor is going to love reading this... Now, can we dupe the same magic on the Intel GMA500/Poulsbo chipset? Last news item I saw said VMware got the source code as part of their purchase of Tungsten Graphics... Looks like Adobe owns all that now...

On a potentially related topic, is nVidia Tegra related to the nVidia ION family of drivers? Might we get a twofer?

Hi Luke,

As a QE person, I am ideally look for to have a AC100 dual booted Android and Chromium OS in same manner as Chinese do on their tablets.

I bought an AC100 a couple of days ago when visiting Japan.
I'd be glad to pay you 100$ (or donate the said amount to a GNU/Linux
charity)
if there is a Debian (or Ubunty, or Gentoo --- something that won't
require too much of my time to install and use, that is)
Linux available (well, at least the basic networking and development
tools and X11, need
not be official) on the device by November, say...
