Chrome is ace browser and I use it on many machine with Linux.
Not to distract from the value of Linux has it brill, but could Chrome
not apply the same structure and allow folk to install the OS onto a
desk top as well as the browser as it is I use Chrome mostly these
days for my day to day stuff so would love to perhaps dual boot Linux
and Chrome

It sure could! Seems like an awesome feature.
Unfortunately no one is working on it right now, but if you feel strongly about it why don't you have a go at implementing it yourself? We're an open project and it's not hard to contribute changes.
Well I may be misunderstanding the whole issue but I believe a dude by
the moniker of 'Hexxeh' has created Chromum builds for just this
purpose. You can take a look
for yourself here - http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/lime.php .

I think Preplexed is talking about double clicking on a desktop icon and launching ChromeOS, much like you would run a virtual machine.
Put a little bucket in a checkout line full of these usb sticks, and you have lowered the entry point for people that are curious. A lot of people are probably a bit leery about booting off of a usb stick. It is also not as fast. Many old desktops I run into do not boot off of a usb disk.

In that line of thinking then it is possible.
I have a number of OS'es that run in VirtualBox on my Ubuntu 10.10
machine to include - Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8 Customer Preview,
and last but not least Chromium Vanilla. One could create a desktop
icon with a launcher that invoked 'VBoxManage startvm “ChromeOS"' or
whatever name they used for the vm.

Actually 'Hexxeh' is way ahead of us on this one, which is what I was
alluding to in my first post. He has pre-built VirtualBox VDI files of
ChromiumOS Vanilla daily "bleeding edge" builds. There's a blog link
here http://goo.gl/Ct37V that speaks of them and the actual links are
on his page here http://goo.gl/UOQT .
Hope this helps...
