Subject: svn for depot_tools requires username/password?
I have been tring to download and install depot_tools with this
command:

  svn co svn://svn.chromium.org/chrome/trunk/tools/depot_tools

On Ubuntu 11.10, but I keep getting a message "Password for <my ubuntu
username here>:", Once I put my password in, it goes back and has me
put the username in, and then password until it eventually kicks me
out with

"svn: Authentication error from server: Username not found"

I tried my Google Account username/password, and my root,
unfortunately I'm having no success. Has anyone experienced this? I
think I'm just missing something basic..

are you a Chrome committer ?  if not, please review the documentation:
http://dev.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/install-depot-tools

(hint: use the http:// URL)

That must be the problem, I wasn't sure if that meant you wanted to
commit to the project, or if it's those that are already committing.
Should have tried the non-committers url :) Thanks!

PS. How can I become a committer?

depot_tools is special ... very few people actually commit to that.
much more likely would be posting changes to the other source trees.

with Chromium and ChromiumOS, you don't have to be a "committer".
anyone can post a changelist (CL) for review/merging.  you just need
to create an account on the respective codereview/gerrit websites.
